Former Headmaster Hugh Davies Jones’ Memoirs

22 March 2024

We recently received a copy of former Headmaster Hugh Davies Jones’ Memoirs. This fascinating account documents thirty one years of incredible change at The Beacon, both under Hugh’s leadership (1972-1984) and that of his father-in-law, Pip Masters (1953-1972) before him. It was during this time that many of the buildings that remain at the heart of the school were bought, renovated or built – often with the help of Beacon pupils and their families – and the values and standards that we hold high today were set and instilled.

Hugh’s writings also recall many former pupils, families and members of staff from his time at The Beacon and before, and are accompanied by a number of previously unseen archival images.

Enormous thanks to Hugh for collating and sharing his memories on this chapter of The Beacon’s history.
