Admissions

Choosing the right school for your child is an important decision, so it’s essential you feel happy and confident throughout the admissions process. Our experienced and friendly Registrar, Mrs Jane Baines, will support you through this time as we welcome you to our Beacon Community. Please do contact Jane directly with any queries on admissions@beaconschool.co.uk or call on 01494 432764.

There are three main entry points into The Beacon – Reception (age 4), Year 3 (age 7) and Year 7 (age 11). However, places in other year groups do become available from time to time, so please do enquire.

You may register your son for admission at any time after birth. Early registration is advised and we encourage families to visit The Beacon during the School day to see the School in action and to meet our Headmaster, William Phelps.

Admissions Procedure for Pre-Prep Entry (Reception to Year 2)

Visit The Beacon

We encourage families to visit our School at an Open Morning or arrange an individual meeting with our Headmaster, William Phelps, combined with a tour of the School.

Registering Your Son

Please register your son using our online registration form, which requires a non-refundable registration fee of £125. Registered boys are then placed on a waiting list in order of date of registration.

Offer of a Place

Reception Place: A year prior to entry, we invite prospective Reception boys to an informal play session with our Head of Early Years, Mrs Claire Sharp, to ensure he is ready to start Reception the following September. Offers are sent in order of date of registration.

Years 1 and 2 Place: Boys are invited to a taster day in the term prior to starting. The boys experience an interactive day at The Beacon, touring the facilities, sharing a delicious lunch, attending lessons such as PE and Music and meeting the teachers and current boys. This allows your son to familiarise himself with the School and to see for himself what it might be like to be a Beacon boy. During the day your son will be assessed, using a verbal and non-verbal standardised test.

Joining The Beacon

For boys joining Pre-Prep in September, a moving-up morning for boys and an information meeting for parents are held in the Summer Term prior to joining. The information meeting provides parents with valuable information, such as uniform lists and daily routines, and gives parents the opportunity to meet their son’s teacher. We give you access to our Parent Portal, which includes the joining packs and School Handbook.
