Explore The BeaconChoosing the right school for your child is an important decision, so it is essential you feel happy and confident throughout the admissions process.
We are thrilled you are considering to start your son's journey at The Beacon. Our Registrar would be delighted to guide you through our admissions process and warmly welcome you to our Beacon community.
Step One
Visit The BeaconWe encourage families to visit our school at an Open Morning or via an individual tour, combined with a meeting with our Headmaster. Whole school Open Days are held in the Autumn and Summer Term. Individual tours can be arranged all year round and our Headmaster Nick Baker looks forward to meeting prospective families throughout the year.
Step Two
Register Your SonThere are four main entry points at The Beacon; Nursery (aged 3), Reception (aged 4), Year 3 (aged 7) and Year 7 (aged 11). However, places in other year groups do become available. You may register your son at any time from birth using our online registration form, accompanied with a non-refundable registration fee. Early registration is advised as boys are placed on a waiting list in order of date of registration.
Step Three
Attend An Assessment DayNew joiners are invited to an Assessment Day in the year prior to starting. Boys entering Nursery or Reception are invited in for a short observation and assessment session with our Early Years team. References from current Nursery settings are requested. Boys looking to join Years 1-8 spend the days with us and attend a variety of lessons, meet their teachers and peers, and enjoy lunch in the Dining Hall. For Years 1-8, assessments are age appropriate in Maths and English. References and a school report are requested.
Step Four
Receive an OfferOffer letters are sent out a few days after a successful assessment. Parents are required to accept a place in writing prior to the date highlighted. A deposit will need to be settled to secure the place.
Step Five
Settle in at The BeaconBoys joining The Beacon in September take part in a Moving-Up Morning in July prior to starting and an Induction Afternoon (Years 1-8) the day before term starts. We find this really supports our new joiners and helps the boys settle in at The Beacon. For parents, we hold an Information Evening in the Summer Term. Access to our Parent Portal is also provided in the Summer Term before starting at The Beacon, which is a valuable resource of information.
