School Trips

School trips are an important part of life at The Beacon, and our boys experience a varied range of fun and educational outings from Reception upwards. School trips reflect and complement many aspects of the curriculum, and all term-time trips are included in the fees.

Boys in Year 4 and above enjoy an annual residential trip. This year, our Year 4 boys are looking forward to a two-night trip to Shortenills Environmental Education Centre in the Chilterns, Year 5 will take part in a three-night trip to Windmill Hill in Sussex, Year 6 enjoy a week-long multi-activity trip to Newquay and Year 7 go on a team-building trip within the first two weeks of joining Upper School, where their leadership, problem solving and communication skills are put to the test in a multi-activity 2-night stay under canvas. We also arrange exciting cross-curricular academic trips for our Year 7 boys. Our Year 8 boys visit the World War I battlefields near Ypres at the start of the academic year, and also go on a fun, adventure residential trip for a week during the Summer term.

Other trips during the holidays have included ski trips, a Classics trip to Pompeii and the Bay of Naples and a choir tour to Trento in Italy, as well as performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the summer.

In addition, our boys enjoy a range of day trips or theme days throughout the year, for example:

  • Reception – College Lake in Tring, Mead Open Farm
  • Year 1 – Whipsnade Zoo, Oxford Story Museum
  • Year 2 – RAF Hendon, Warwick Castle
