Upper School Enrichment Programme

14 March 2024

In 2023, Mr Privett (Head of Self & Society) and Mr Porter (Head of Computing & Innovation) launched The Beacon ‘Upper School Enrichment Programme’. A comprehensive and informative introduction to essential topics outside of the curriculum, specifically tailored for boys in Years 7 and 8. The programme has been successfully running for the second year this term, completed during tutor time sessions.

The Enrichment Programme delivers workshops around the topics of personal finance, Women’s History Month, current affairs, team-building activities, careers and prospective jobs for the future. Part of the programme is BeaconTalks, an initiative set up to welcome Old Beaconians back to The Beacon to give insight into their experience at Senior Schools, tips on the application process and how to be prepared for future schools. Former Beacon boys and other interesting connections are also invited to talk about their school life journey and/or careers.

Years 7 and 8 have been learning about essential economic concepts which creates a foundation for financial responsibility. Understanding this at an early age equips the boys with the knowledge to make informed financial decisions in the future.

The boys have also been introduced to the dynamics of investing, savings, bonds, and ISAs, learning the importance of long-term financial planning. The Enrichment Programme addresses the practical aspects of managing money, all presented by our knowledgeable staff members.

Here at The Beacon, we ensure that boys are given the opportunity to develop the necessary skills to navigate the complexities of the modern world, fostering independence and security in their adult lives.
