BBC Young Reporters 2023

25 May 2023

2 students in the library

It was an exciting Thursday morning for our Year 8 boys this week. They acted as roving reporters as part of the BBC Young Reporter initiative, which was developed to aid young people in developing content creation skills whilst having an insight into current affairs.

They began the day with an editorial meeting, where our boys subsequently got stuck in to trawling through newspapers and online news sources. They worked in pairs to plan, research and write news stories about hot topics they found interesting, relating to current world news topics.

The stories selected varied between local, national and international items. These included HS2, the World Darts Championship and racism in sports.

Once they had chosen their topic, our teams of boys had the responsibility to arrange interviews to support their stories, some of which were on the phone, through emails, and in person with teachers. They all learnt valuable skills needed to create and understand the media by conducting interviews and working to tight deadlines to construct their pieces.
