Baker’s Beacon Blog – Week 27

4 May 2023

Dear Parents,

Coronation Fever hit The Beacon today with a special Assembly in the morning and then a celebratory tea party at lunchtime with the Union Flag flying proudly from the flagpole. I think it’s fair to say that countrywide there has been more of a hint of apathy about this weekend’s event with a population that is possibly ‘punch drunk’ from all the recent events, media coverage and scandal of all things royal.  On my part though, I love the tradition of our royal heritage, and the idiosyncrasies of our constitution is something that should be cherished and championed in what is fast becoming an all too modern and hi-tech world. I asked my five new ‘Beacon Best Friends’ – Nico, Reyan, Sai, Rihan (all Reception) and Krishna (Year 2) – whilst covering the Gerrards Cross bus route this week what they thought about this weekend and if they were doing anything special.  I was heartened by the fact that all were celebrating with their families and local communities; getting together to mark a historic point in their and this country’s history.  Bravo to the GX bus boys…though the conversation did very quickly turn (back) to the love of Star Wars, did I like daddy long legs and if I ever saw an anaconda would I touch it…

Thank you to all those parents for sending in such splendid pictures of The Beacon community amongst the bluebells this past weekend; a selection of them are below.  As I cycled through Ashridge towards the imaginatively titled ‘Bluebell Wood’ on (coincidentally) Beacon Road last weekend, I must have stopped six or seven times as each area I passed seemed to get more and more impressive. I settled on this one – bluebells in the foreground and background, framed in spring sunshine – a typically British countryside scene for what promises to be a typically British event – enjoy the Coronation weekend and…

God save the King!
