Speech Day 2022

6 July 2022

This year at The Beacon, we have seen an array of excellence from our boys, from outstanding live performances, sporting victory, cooking mastery to success in Maths competitions, among many more! It’s safe to say that our boys have wonderfully matured, and continue to achieve greatness.

This week saw our celebratory Speech Days take place – Middle School on Monday, Lower School on Tuesday and Upper School on Wednesday. All our boys enjoyed reminiscing about their journey at The Beacon by watching a video montage of their adventures and school life over the past year, as well as cheering on their peers as they went on stage to receive awards and prizes for a variety of different achievements. It was a delight to see our Beacon Community come back together for such a momentous occasion by welcoming parents back on site this year!

The Middle School Speech Day was an emotional one for some, as we say goodbye to a few of our Year 6 boys who have grown with us since joining in Reception. They are moving on from The Beacon and we are confident they will continue to develop and fulfill their potential, be respectful and ‘Be Kind’ in their next big adventure at their future schools.

Our Lower School Speech Day was a wonder to watch, for our Year 3 boys this was their first time experiencing Speech Day and they were overjoyed to see the excitement of the event, and were thrilled to see their parents in school to celebrate the achievements made throughout the year. Congratulations to all our Lower School boys for your outstanding achievements, hard work pays off!

For many of us, the Upper School Speech Day is a very emotional and heart-warming event. Most of our Year 8 boys have spent the last 10 years of their lives here at The Beacon, developing into remarkable young men, making many memories with their friends and with their Teachers. As their final term at The Beacon comes to an end, Speech Day is a wonderful way to embrace togetherness as a community, celebrating all that our Beacon boys have achieved, congratulating boys on scholarships and Senior School placements, and wishing our leavers the best of luck for their next big adventure in life.

Our Year 7 boys moving up into Year 8 next year are excited to be role models for the rest of the school, and said farewells to their friends in Year 8. All our boys very much enjoyed watching the video montage of the last academic year.

The Speech Day events were a great success, thank you to everyone who attended and contributed. A huge well done to all our boys who received an award or prize during the ceremony, you should feel proud of your achievements!

“What makes a school is not the buildings (or anything else). IT’S THE PEOPLE – YOU. Every one of you. You belong to this community and you always will. If you are leaving us, you are not leaving The Beacon community – we will always be happy to welcome you back.

It’s the people that make up a school community: The Beacon today is all of you. And every single Beacon boy contributes something unique to this community. Some are brilliant sportsmen, some are brilliant mathematicians, some are brilliant singers, some are brilliant geographers – everybody is good at different things and it is great to come together to make the Beacon community.”

Simon Detre – Interim Headmaster
