Beacon Parents’ Society Donations

1 July 2022

Once again, our wonderful Beacon Parents’ Society (BPS) have arranged and organised many fabulous events during this academic year, from the Christmas Fair and the excellent Chocolate Tombola to the Great British Cake Sale and Platinum Jubilee Ball, which was very well attended. These events have raised an incredible amount for The Beacon resources as well as our charity partners.

Over the year, our BPS events and initiatives have raised a staggering £5,303 for our charity partners, split as follows: £1,800 to Roald Dahl Marvellous Children’s Charity, £1,800 to Young Minds Trust, and £1,703 to the DEC Ukrainian Appeal.

Additional funds have been put to good use to support our Beacon boys’ learning and to enhance their experience at The Beacon, including brand new electrical items, valuable school learning equipment, outdoor furniture as well as well needed maintenance to the Spinney Theatre.

The BPS kindly donated STEM games and activities for the STEM after-school club, as well as VEX Go Kits for the CODE (Centre of Digital Excellence) room to help teach STEM fundamentals and coding skills.

Our Classics department were excited to receive an impressive replica suit of Roman legionary armour, of which the boys enjoyed putting on to impersonate a Roman soldier.

The Performing Arts department were thrilled to be gifted a Salvi Titan Harp with an accompanying travel cover. We now have 2 boys at The Beacon learning how to play this fantastic instrument. If you would like your son to take up Harp lessons, please email Dr Gavin Lockley to enquire on glockley@beaconschool.co.uk. Along with this, the Spinney Theatre has been tended to with the addition of updated drapes (top tab and side tabs) to improve the stage appearance for future performances.

Our Early Years department were delighted to receive brand new outdoor furniture, including a Friendship Bench, Cozy Coups and some lovely Garden Planters. Our Little Beacons and Reception boys have embraced these new items.

In addition, the AstroTurf has had an upgrade with new Basketball hoops and backboards been installed. Our boys have enjoyed practising their Basketball skills during break time.

Mrs Rowland and the Cooking and Nutrition department received a brand new Dehydrating Machine and Taco Presses, which the boys have loved learning to use these during their lessons.

And Finally, as our Jubilee Term comes to an end, the Beacon Parents’ Society donated a Royal Crest as a beautiful piece of memorabilia for the school to help educate the boys about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This is now proudly displayed in the Dining Hall for everyone to see.

We are overwhelmed by the generosity and outstanding support of our Beacon Parents’ Society, and of course, our whole Beacon Community. A huge thank you!

“The contributions made by the BPS to the life of the school are significant and hugely appreciated. The BPS team work hard throughout the year to deliver several large events which bring the community together and raise funds, both for The Beacon and our chosen charities. I am very grateful to the BPS team and all Beacon families who have supported these initiatives in 2021-22.” says Simon Detre, Interim Headmaster
