Harvest Festival 2021

This years Harvest Festival has been an outstanding success, with the Pre-Prep boys preparing their artwork and performing their Harvest Festival songs, to the generous donations from all of you for our Harvest collection, in aid of Chiltern Food Bank.

We have been overwhelmed with the food donations that have been delivered to school this year, these will go towards families in crisis which helps prevent crime, housing loss and mental health related issues. The Chiltern Food Bank are an amazing charity who help thousands of people in need every year. It’s also a valuable lesson to teach our boys the importance of giving back.

Today, all the donations were loaded onto the bus by our Estates Team with the support of some of our Beacon boys, to be delivered to the food bank so they can start to be distributed to the local community.

Thank you to everyone who donated to this worthwhile cause.

Pre-Prep Harvest Festival Performance

Pre-Prep Harvest Festival was also a wonderful success, the boys from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have been learning to sing a range of different harvest songs in their singing lessons in preparation for their performances.

The boys have grown amazingly in confidence with their singing and performing, they even managed to perform sign language throughout the performance. Their songs included “The Singing Vegetables” to “Mr Scarecrow”.

They have also wowed us with their super detailed Harvest art work too, they all used striking colours to represent the Harvest Festival.

A big well done to all the Pre-Prep boys for their hard work. The videos of their performances are now available for parents to watch via the link in the email.

Kitchen Garden Harvest

We are also very lucky here at The Beacon to have our own Kitchen Garden, where we can grow our own fruit and vegetables that will be used in our Cooking and Nutrition lessons. As we move into Autumn, we thought it would be a great time to reflect on all the lovely produce we have had from our little kitchen garden. The boys have been busy cooking away in years 4 to 8, using lots of the harvested produce. Everything from potatoes, swiss chard, kale, rhubarb, rocket, basil, onions, chives, thyme, bay leaves, and oregano.

Some of the dishes they have cooked have been directly inspired by the ingredients they have grown, such as Lentil Lasagne, Basil Pesto, Red Lentil and Kale Dahl, Vegetable Balti and Fish Pie.

Take a look at the gallery of images below to see some of the boys picking the fresh harvest and re-planting some new vegetables, among other images taken during The Beacon Harvest Festival period.
