Spooky Halloween Recipe

16 October 2020

Our Cooking and Nutrition teacher, Mrs Rowland, wanted to share this spookily easy-to-make recipe for Halloween savoury treats!

Mummified Stuffed Peppers

Ingredients

12 mini peppers

Stuffing ingredients

200g block of feta cheese – crumbled

1 x garlic clove – crushed

1 x spring onion – sliced

1 x tsp of harissa (rose) – optional

Bandages!

1 x pack of pre-rolled puff pastry

Eyeballs

12 x pairs of edible googly eyes – can be bought in the supermarket or online. A small cube of black olive would work just as well.

A little cream cheese to glue on the eyes

Method

  1. Pre-heat oven to 200°C (fan oven).
  2. Mix all the stuffing ingredients together in a bowl.
  3. Cut a slit along one side of the peppers and carefully stuff about a heaped teaspoon of the mixture into the cavity.
  4. Use a pastry cutter or knife to cut the pastry into 1cm wide strips that are roughly 15cm long.
  5. Use the pastry strips to wrap up the pepper.
  6. Put the peppers on a lined baking tray and bake for 20 minutes. Be sure to have an adult with you and always use oven gloves.
  7. Allow the peppers to cool until they are warm but not too hot. You may find it easy to stick on the eyes, but if not, you can use a little cream cheese as glue to stick on the eyes.

This is a great way to add some vegetables into your Halloween treats.

Utensils – chopping boards, knife or scissors, garlic crusher, bowl and food waste bowl, baking tray, oven and oven gloves, cutlery knife, teaspoon

Have fun and Happy Halloween!
