U8B2 Rugby The Beacon vs Claires Court
![]()
On a cold but bright winter afternoon, The Beacon U8B2 team travelled to Claires Court for their latest rugby fixture. With frost on the ground and the sun just about keeping the chill at bay, our boys were eager to get started. I had the pleasure of stepping in for Mr Winter’s team and from the opening whistle it was clear the boys were ready to put in a strong performance.
The Beacon made an excellent start, moving the ball confidently and showing great intent in attack. Their early pressure paid off, resulting in a handful of well-worked tries that gave us a solid lead. However, a few defensive lapses just before half-time allowed Claires Court back into the contest, reminding the boys of the importance of staying switched on throughout the game.
At the break, we focused on tightening our defensive structure and giving better support to the ball carrier when breaking through the line. The response in the second half was outstanding. The boys displayed brilliant teamwork, improved discipline, and a clear understanding of their roles. Their determination and collective effort saw them dominate the remainder of the match, adding several more tries while limiting the opposition to very few opportunities.
The final score of 10–4 was a deserved reflection of the boys’ progress and their excellent second-half display. The afternoon finished on a warm and friendly note, with both teams enjoying a post-match tea and a friendly conversation about their enjoyment for the game.
A fantastic effort all round—well done, Beacon!
Final Score: The Beacon 10 – 4 Claires Court

U8D2 vs Claires Court
Our U8D2 team delivered a fantastic performance in their rugby fixture at Claires Court, showcasing just how much progress they have made over the course of the term. From the first whistle, the boys demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination, and a growing confidence in their skills. Their passing, support play, and defensive organisation all reflected the hard work they’ve been putting in during our games sessions.
A standout moment of the afternoon was the exceptional performance from Harrison R, who stole the show with an impressive five tries that helped us to an 8-1 win. His pace, awareness, and enthusiasm lifted the whole team, and his efforts were met with well-deserved cheers from the touchline.
Despite the freezing cold conditions, the boys’ spirits never dipped, and their positive attitude made the match thoroughly enjoyable for all spectators. After the final whistle, both teams warmed up with a well-earned match tea in the dining room – a lovely way to round off a chilly but hugely rewarding afternoon of rugby.

Division 10 Swim League, Gala 2 at Maltman’s Green
On Tuesday, our squad travelled to Maltman’s Green School for the second gala of the Division 10 Swim League, ready to put their recent training efforts into practice. Over the past few weeks, the swimmers have shown steady improvement, and this was reflected in a more organised and composed team performance.
Across the evening, several key areas of progress were evident. The swimmers produced cleaner, more confident starts, showing the benefit of the work done on dives in training. Their technique also showed signs of developing maturity, with more controlled, efficient strokes replacing the tendency to rely purely on power.
Organisation within the relay teams was improved as well. The children were clearer on their roles, communicated more effectively, and demonstrated a better understanding of how to operate as a team.
Year 4, 5, and 6 pupils all took part, contributing to a solid and encouraging display of swimming. The gala highlighted the progress being made and provided a useful benchmark for the rest of the season.
Overall, it was a positive step forward, and the squad can take confidence from the improvements shown as they continue to build their skills and experience.
