Sports Highlights Week 34 2026

National Athletics Championships

The Beacon had four representatives in this prestigious annual competition. In the under 12 boys 75m event, Thomas S (Year 6) performed admirably finishing 3rd in his heat and narrowly missing out on the final by 100th of a second. He ran 10.62 seconds.

In the under 14 boys long jump, Sebastian S (Year 8) jumped a fantastic 4m 91cm to secure 5th place overall. This was a tremendous performance given he was competing against the best in the country at prep school level.

In the under 14 boys high jump, Barney G (Year 8) produced a fine performance finishing 4th place overall. He narrowly missed out on a PB when he just failed at his final height of 1m 60cm.

In the last competition of the day, Alex H (Year 6) competed very well in the under 12 boy’s shotput, finishing in 9th place overall.

A great achievement by all the boys that took part!

U8 Cricket v Gayhurst

The U8 team produced an outstanding all round performance to record a convincing 60 run victory over Gayhurst. The boys impressed with both bat and ball, losing just one wicket while taking 10 of Gayhurst’s wickets in reply.

It was a fantastic team performance and a real testament to how much our team have improved since the start of the season. Their confidence, teamwork and cricketing skills have come on tremendously. Well done to everyone involved!

U9A Cricket v Gayhurst

The U9A team continued their excellent run of form on Tuesday with another impressive victory, this time against Gayhurst.

After winning the toss, we elected to bowl first. Hugo H produced one of the most remarkable overs of the season, taking an incredible 5 wickets in the opening over, including a sensational hat-trick! It was a spell of bowling that set the tone for the entire innings.

The rest of the team maintained the pressure brilliantly, with regular wickets falling throughout. Our fielding and bowling display was outstanding, restricting Gayhurst to 217 while claiming a season-best 18 wickets. In reply, our batters continued the good work, scoring an excellent 294-8 to secure a convincing win by 77 runs. Freddie VF and Hari K were the standout batting pair, leading the scoring with a confident and positive partnership that ensured we comfortably stayed ahead of the required total.

Another superb team performance, highlighted by Hugo’s unforgettable opening over, sees the U9A side continue their fantastic season in style ahead of our final fixture against Chesham Prep on Tuesday. Well done, lads!

U8A Cricket v Gayhurst

The U8A team travelled to Gayhurst School yesterday for their final match of the season. After winning the toss, we elected to bowl first.

Once again, the boys produced an excellent bowling display, something that has been a hallmark of their season, backed up by alert and committed fielding. There were catches, run outs and several clean bowled dismissals, restricting Gayhurst to a total of 249.

The Beacon’s reply got off to a flying start, with clever running between the wickets and some beautifully timed boundaries. A magnificent six, along with more well-judged stroke play, helped secure a convincing victory in the final game of Year 3.

Congratulations to all the boys on an outstanding achievement—an unbeaten season!
