Pastoral Care at The Beacon

The welfare and wellbeing of our Beacon community is a primary focus. We pride ourself on ensuring every child feels supported, happy and secure. We create a safe, nurturing environment where children feel confident to be themselves, build positive relationships and ultimately enjoy school life.

Safeguarding

The Beacon is committed to safeguarding and promoting the physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of every pupil. We implement a whole-school preventative approach to identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, ensuring that the wellbeing of pupils is at the forefront of all action taken. With an experienced Wellbeing Coach and Counsellor on-site daily, a dedicated Safeguarding Team and Pastoral Care Team of specially trained staff, our pupils have a strong network of support around them. Whether they need someone to talk to, a little extra encouragement or help navigating a challenge, they know there is always someone they can turn to.
Meet Our Safeguarding Team

Pastoral Care Team

Our Pastoral Care Team comprises of class teachers, form tutors, Heads of Sections, Heads of Houses, School Matrons, our Senior Leadership Team and our Wellbeing Coach & Counsellor. They meet regularly to ensure needs are met, working closely with families and teachers. At The Beacon, pastoral care is built around knowing every child as an individual. From Little Beacons through to Year 8, pupils have trusted adults around them who listen and support them.

Physical Wellbeing

We believe that looking after physical health is an important part of helping children feel happy, confident and ready to learn. Through a broad programme of sport, physical activity, healthy eating and outdoor experiences, we encourage pupils to develop positive habits that support their wellbeing. We help children understand the importance of staying active, eating well, resting and looking after their bodies.

Online Safety

As children grow up in an increasingly digital world, we help them develop the knowledge and confidence to use technology safely and responsibly. Online safety is embedded throughout school life, with pupils learning about topics such as social media, digital wellbeing, privacy and respectful online behaviour. We also provide guidance and resources to help parents support their children at home.

Self & Society

Our Self and Society programme helps pupils develop the knowledge and skills they need to understand themselves, build positive relationships and navigate the world around them. Through age-appropriate lessons and wider experiences, children explore topics including relationships, health, personal safety, emotional wellbeing, resilience and making positive choices. We encourage pupils to become confident, thoughtful and responsible members of their community.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is introduced to all pupils from Little Beacons upwards, helping them to build a sense of self-awareness through paying attention to the present moment.

Mentors

Our Upper School pupils also play a key role in pastoral care, offering support and friendship as mentors for the younger children during break and lunchtimes.

Support for Parents

We recognise that supporting a child can sometimes bring challenges, and our pastoral team are available to work alongside families. We offer guidance and support on a range of wellbeing, pastoral and safeguarding matters, as well as signposting families towards trusted external organisations and resources when additional support may be helpful.
