Another Year of Sporting Success
We were delighted to enjoy another outstanding year of sporting achievement and success at The Beacon. From new school records being set and medals being won to exciting sporting trips overseas, it has certainly been a year to remember.
County Cross Country Champions
Seven of our pupils qualified for the National Championships following an impressive victory at the County Championships at Stowe. The Beacon finished around 40 seconds ahead of the runners-up, securing a fantastic team result.
South Africa Cricket Tour
Our Upper School cricket team enjoyed an unforgettable 10-day tour of South Africa, securing wins against several schools. Highlights included a dramatic Super Over victory and a fantastic win against a side that had been unbeaten for two years.
Sports Day
We held our annual Pre-Prep Sports Day at The Beacon, inviting families to cheer on our younger pupils and giving them a taste of our main sporting event. Our Sports Day for Years 3 to 8 was then held at Woodside Stadium, where two new Beacon records were set. Benjamin W broke a record dating back to 1980 with a 38m cricket-ball throw, whilst Sebi W broke the 100m record set in 1976.
IAPS Ski Championships
We were proud to once again compete in the IAPS Ski Championships on the Italian slopes. Our ski team competed against 220 competitors, with the U13 Plate team winning silver and another team reaching the quarter-finals of the parallel races.
Unbeaten Benfica Football Tour
Our Years 5 and 6 footballers travelled to Lisbon for an exciting football tour, receiving professional coaching at Benfica Campus before competing against S.L. Benfica. The U10s secured an impressive 9–7 victory, while the U11s battled to a 4–4 draw.
Merchant Taylors’ Athletics Champions
Our U9–U13 athletics squad delivered an outstanding performance at Merchant Taylors’ athletics track, competing against a strong field of schools including Gayhurst, Davenies, St John’s Beaumont and St John’s Northwood. The squad were crowned overall winners, winning all four 4x100m relay events, as well as every 75m and 100m race across their age groups.
National Swimming Success
Our swimmers competed at the IAPS National Swimming Finals at London’s Olympic Park, achieving personal bests and recording strong finishes against some of the country’s best young swimmers.
1st XI Bloxham Tournament Winners
Our 1st XI put on an excellent performance at the Bloxham Tournament, going unbeaten throughout the competition. Victories over Bloxham and Beachborough set up a final against Moulsford, where the team secured an impressive victory. A key wicket from Henry B helped restrict the opposition to 84, before captain Hugo C scored an unbeaten 44 from 27 balls to guide the team to the tournament title.
Alongside these achievements, our pupils enjoyed a strong football season, secured an U11 Hockey bronze medal and took part in another fantastic ski trip to France, giving pupils the opportunity to develop their skills all whilst enjoying their time on the slopes.
