U11B Rugby vs Berkhamsted

The U11B rugby team faced a very different challenge this week, on their away trip to Berkhamsted, with a cold wind and driving rain making conditions difficult throughout the match. However, despite the weather, the team showed fantastic character, resilience and commitment, putting in a performance that made their coach incredibly proud.
Before kick-off, I challenged our team to bring the same aggression and intensity into the match that they regularly demonstrate when competing against each other in training. They certainly did not disappoint! From the first whistle, Team Beacon tackled with determination, competed fiercely for possession and showed a real desire to get on the front foot. Our defensive performance was impressive, and the players worked tirelessly as a unit. The most pleasing statistic for the coach was keeping Berkhamsted scoreless.
Despite the challenging conditions, we also moved the ball well, showing good awareness and confidence in possession. Scoring through seven different try scorers was another real highlight. This demonstrates the trust our pupils have in each other, their willingness to share the ball and their understanding that everyone has a role to play.
Perhaps most importantly, the players stayed true to our 3 Cs throughout the match. They did not complain, criticise or compare, regardless of the weather or the challenges they faced. Their attitude and focus never wavered.
Overall, this was a fantastic team performance, and they should be extremely proud of how they have improved over this half term.

Well done, team!

U10As Rugby vs St Paul’s

Last Friday, The Beacon U10A team produced another terrific performance at St Paul’s on a sunny Friday afternoon. In a high scoring, end to end contest, the boys made a slow start, conceding three early tries, but responded brilliantly to fight their way back into the game.
Growing in confidence and intensity, The Beacon dominated large periods of the match and showed tremendous determination to finish deserved winners by a single try 35-30. It was a fantastic team effort in a fiercely competitive encounter.
Man of the Match was Dion T, who made several crunching, last ditch try saving tackles and carried the ball superbly, running directly and aggressively at the opposition. A brilliant performance from Dion and a great result for the team!

U11C Rugby vs Berkhamsted

Finally, some proper rugby weather! The U11C team ran out convincing winners in their trip to Berkhamsted on Wednesday on a rain-soaked and chilly afternoon. Neither our spirits nor our effort was dampened by the weather as we raced to a 5 try lead in the opening ten minutes. Subsequently we tried to develop some differing approaches to our attack, using the width rather than simply running through – all with the intention of broadening our overall game. This win was our 4th of the season with only one loss – a great platform on which to build in November.
