Sports Highlights Week 33 2026

U10 A Cricket v Chesham

This was undoubtedly the game of the season so far, played on a hot afternoon at Chesham Prep. The small pitch, tight boundaries and fast astro wicket meant that runs were always likely to come quickly.

Batting first, Chesham amassed an imposing total of 180 from their 20 overs. We bowled reasonably well as a unit but conceded too many wides and no balls, which ultimately proved costly.

As we discussed our reply, the boys were understandably a little daunted by the sizeable target. However, our star batter, Freddie F, produced a superb innings. Once he found his rhythm, Freddie began to attack the bowling with confidence, striking boundaries with ease, including a magnificent straight six. Chasing more than nine runs an over from the outset, Freddie was well supported by Ronan (10) and Teddy (23), helping to reduce the required run rate to a very manageable seven an over. Freddie reached a superb half century before having to retire.

The chase became more difficult after Freddie’s retirement, but the boys refused to give up. Bertie (13), Milan (15) and Harley (18) all batted brilliantly, keeping us within touching distance right to the end. Despite a tremendous effort, we fell just six runs short in what was a thrilling match.

It was a fantastic game to be part of, and one from which the boys will have learnt a great deal. Well done to the entire team.

Team: Freddie F (Captain), Ronan W, Teddy S-S, Robert P, Barney K, Bertie H, Milan M, Harley G, Kian S, Wilf W and Alfred B.

U10C1 Cricket v Chesham Prep

Last Friday, our Year 5 C1s cricket team produced an excellent all-round performance to secure a hard-fought 8-run victory against Chesham Prep.

We were put into bat first and set a target of 106 to win with 6 of our batsmen getting into double figures (Trystan T with 14, Quinn R with 13, Matthew B with 10, Farid A with 14, Rohan B with 10 and Oscar B top scoring with 16 runs: which included three lovely boundaries).

So, our bowling attack went to work and unfortunately a lot of wides kept the score ticking over and Chesham were ahead of the run rate all the way until our fourth pair of bowlers stepped up and changed the momentum of the game. Oscar and Aaron only conceded 5 runs for their two overs of 9 balls each, with Aaron getting two well deserved wickets. Other wicket takers were Jack, Matthew and Farid . Chesham finished with a total of 97 runs and The Beacon boys put in a fantastic team performance – well played to all the players involved.
