Another Successful Year At The Beacon
On Wednesday, we held our annual Speech Day event at the Wycombe Swan Theatre, welcoming boys from Years 4-8, as well as our Beacon Community to celebrate another successful year full of achievements at The Beacon.
The event kicked off with a powerful performance from our Sister Act Jr. cast, highlighting their brilliant theatrical skills that our Beacon Community are soon to see in their upcoming performances at The Beacon and at Edinburgh Festival Fringe this summer.
After this, Headmaster Nick Baker took to the stand for our end of year speech, which had a special mention of every boy within the school.
We then celebrated our boys’ outstanding achievements throughout the year with a prize giving for Years 4 & 5. The boys proudly accepted their trophies and awards before enjoying a beautiful piano solo from our winning Musician of The Year, Thomas R.
This was soon followed by our winning Beacon Bard of The Year’s performance by Tag L, which showcased his fantastic acting and video production skills to the entire audience – a testament to the reason he has been awarded a Drama scholarship.
In addition to this, we played our Year 6 and Year 8 leavers’ videos, saying a final farewell to those who will be attending a new school from September. Our Year 8 boys soon took to the stage, accepting their accreditations in an emotional leavers’ presentation. Leading to the inaugural Head Boys’ Speech which lightened the mood with funny anecdotes about their Beacon experience.
Our Performing Arts department treated the audience to another delightful performance, this time from our Year 6 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang casts. Seeing both casts singing together was a special moment.
Our choir also took to the stage to sing an emotional combination of songs from Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen, before the Headmaster gave his closing remarks.
For many boys, Speech Day is an exciting way to end the year, reminiscing on the opportunities and adventure that the past year has brought, whilst cheering on all their peers for excellent achievements. It is also an emotional day of farewells for others, as we say goodbye to some of our Year 6 boys and the whole of our current Year 8 boys whose journey at The Beacon has sadly come to an end, after almost a decade for some.
Thank you to everyone who and cheered on our boys – we hope you all have a lovely summer!
