Sports Highlights Week 21 2026

The Beacon Second XI Football v Caldicott

The Second XI played their second match of the term on Wednesday afternoon in glorious sunshine and produced an impressive performance from start to finish.

From the opening whistle, the team played some excellent expansive football, moving the ball confidently and showing great awareness with intelligent runs off the ball. Their crisp passing and attacking intent quickly put the visiting side under sustained pressure, and it soon became clear that the home team were the stronger of the two.

The goals began to flow as the team took control of the game, finishing their chances well and maintaining a high tempo throughout the first half. By the time the half-time whistle blew, they had built a commanding 5–0 lead, a fair reflection of their dominance.

The second half began at a slightly slower pace as the team understandably took their foot off the gas, allowing the visitors to gain a little more possession. Despite this, the hosts remained largely in control and added another goal to their tally. The visitors managed to grab 3 goals, but it did little to change the overall picture of the match.

The game finished 6–3, a convincing victory and a well-deserved reward for an excellent team performance.

Well done to all involved.

The Beacon 1XI Football v Caldicott & Swanbourne

Our footballers made a strong start against Caldicott, dominating the early stages and playing much of the game in the opposition half. The Beacon team took a deserved lead through a powerful strike inside the box from Henry B. However, Caldicott grew into the game and scored twice in quick succession just before half time.

We responded well after half time and controlled much of the possession, but were unable to convert our chances. Caldicott added two further goals late on to make the final score 4–1, although the match was far more evenly contested than the scoreline suggests.

The second game against Swanbourne was another strong performance. We started brightly and scored twice before half time. Seb S finished neatly after some good build-up play, before Hugo C added a second with a powerful run and clinical finish. Swanbourne pulled a goal back in the final seconds, but we held on for a well-deserved 2–1 victory.

Overall, it was a brilliant afternoon of football with many positive performances.

Scores:

Caldicott 4 The Beacon 1
The Beacon 2 Swanbourne 1

The Beacon U10 C1s v Chesham (Away)

Last Friday’s U10C1 fixture against Chesham, was a great game to be a part of. It was played in a great spirit by both teams and it was a proper end to end game, which could have gone either way.

In the first half, we started brightly and created numerous chances but just couldn’t find that goal. Chesham also had their chances but thanks to some excellent defending by Luca, Barnaby and Freddie and some great saves by our new keeper, Arian – we kept them scoreless.

After the break, the response in the second half was outstanding. Our passing became sharper, our movement improved, and we finally got a goal, which was scored by Hamish – who worked tirelessly in midfield. Hamish was backed up in midfield by Jack, Aman and Aadvik who all gave a super level of effort throughout the game.

A fantastic team performance and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of football. Well done team!

The Beacon U8A v Moulsford Preparatory School

The Beacon delivered a much improved performance but were narrowly beaten 1–0 by Moulsford Preparatory School in a competitive and hard-fought match.

Having lost 4–1 in the previous meeting between the two teams, The Beacon was determined to show their progress, and that determination was clear from the start. The team worked tirelessly across the pitch, showing strong teamwork, organization, and a willingness to battle for every ball.

Defensively, The Beacon was far more solid than in the last encounter, limiting Moulsford’s chances and supporting one another well at the back. In midfield and attack, they pressed with energy and looked to move the ball forward whenever possible.

Moulsford managed to score the only goal of the match, but The Beacon responded positively and continued to push for an equalizer. Their effort and attitude never dropped, with players showing great resilience and commitment until the final whistle.

Although the result did not go their way, the difference from the previous 4–1 defeat was clear. The Beacon showed real improvement and I am very proud of their performance against a strong Moulsford side.
