Year 8 Takes Flight at Duxford
Despite a very wet start to the week, Year 8 set off on Monday 8th June for an exciting trip to the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. Thankfully, the rain eased as the day went on, allowing the group to explore one of the world’s most impressive aviation museums without getting too drenched!
Highlights of the trip included a visit to the iconic Concorde, the fascinating Parachute Regiment museum, and the enormous B-52 Stratofortress in the American hangar. The group also stepped aboard a DC-10 airliner from the early 1970s, where they were amazed by the luxurious legroom and amused to discover ashtrays built into every seat – a reminder of how much air travel has changed over the years!
No visit to Duxford would be complete without seeing some of Britain’s most famous wartime aircraft, including the Spitfire and Hurricane. Unfortunately, the weather prevented any flying displays, but there was still plenty to capture the imagination.
Nevertheless, Duxford is always a fascinating place to visit and Year 8 thoroughly enjoyed getting up close to these remarkable machines whilst learning about the history, innovation and people behind them.
