The Beacon U10A Football v Berkhamsted, Gayhurst and Chesham Prep
![]()
The U10A team signed off their final fixture of the term in style on Friday, producing a series of outstanding performances in a quadrangular against Berkhamsted, Gayhurst and Chesham Prep. It proved the perfect way to end what has been a remarkable term, full of high quality football.
The opening match against Berkhamsted set the tone. The team controlled proceedings well and were rewarded with a 2-0 victory. Teddy S-S showed great composure from the penalty spot to open the scoring, before Sebi W added a second with a calm and assured finish to seal a confident start.
The second game against Gayhurst proved more tense, despite the one-sided scoreline when we played them a few weeks back. My favourite moment of the day, that shouldn’t go unmentioned, was a double goal line clearance from Quinn R to keep the game at 0-0. With the game heading for a goalless draw, the boys demonstrated their resilience and attacking intent when it mattered most. A quick-fire double from Harley G and Sebi W turned the game on its head in dramatic fashion, securing another 2-0 win and highlighting their ability to deliver under pressure.
The final match against Chesham Prep followed a similar pattern, with both sides battling hard in a tightly contested encounter. Chesham Prep were resistant and stood firm to a wave of attacks, before Sebi W once again stepped up, scoring a decisive late goal to clinch a 1–0 victory. That final moment sparked bedlam on the sidelines among the travelling ‘Beacon Ultras’ and confirmed something truly special.
The U10A team have gone the entire term unbeaten, extending their incredible invincible run to three years! This achievement is a testament to the boys’ unwavering hard work, talent, and resilience, shown in every training session and match. A fantastic effort from a remarkable group of boys – well done, lads!
Squad – Mateo C, Wilf W, Ronan W, Quinn R, Teddy S-S, Maxim M, Harley G, Sebi W

ESSA Primary Teams Swimming County Qualifiers
![]()
The Beacon produced an outstanding performance at the ESSA Primary Teams Swimming County Qualifiers on Friday 20th March 2026, showcasing excellent teamwork, determination and competitive spirit across both relay events.
Facing a strong field of competitors, the team competed in both the medley and freestyle relays. In the medley relay, the swimmers displayed impressive composure, technical skill and seamless changeovers to secure a superb fourth-place finish. This was followed by another spirited performance in the freestyle relay, where they placed fifth, just outside the podium positions.
Following the release of the county results, there was further success to celebrate. The team has qualified for the next stage in both events—ranking 5th overall in the mixed stroke (medley) relay and 8th in the freestyle relay across all South East entries. This is a significant achievement and highlights the consistency of their performances across the competition.
Representing the school with pride were Bertie H (Year 5), William G (Year 5), Rhys J (Year 5) and Thomas S (Year 6). Each swimmer played a vital role, demonstrating resilience, focus and excellent support for one another throughout.
A particularly notable achievement from the evening is that The Beacon School are the only team from Buckinghamshire to qualify for the next divisional round of the ESSA Championships in the Open Boys School category. This is a fantastic accomplishment and a true reflection of the squad’s hard work and commitment.
A huge well done to all involved on a brilliant team performance.

U11A Football The Beacon v Berkhamsted
![]()
For their final fixture of the season, The Beacon U11A side travelled to Berkhamsted who were having a very good season. We knew this would be a tough test, and it certainly lived up to expectations.
Rather than resting players, the decision was made to utilise the full squad with three substitutes, ensuring everyone shared game time fairly while still remaining competitive. It proved to be exactly the right approach.
The Beacon started brightly and were quickly on the front foot, with Blake B forcing a couple of early saves from the Berkhamsted goalkeeper. From the outset, the work rate and quality of passing were outstanding—this was a team determined to outwork their opponents and show real hunger and desire.
In goal, Oliver C—who has been immense all season—was once again reliable, making some solid saves when called upon, though he was not overly troubled. In defence, Evan K has developed hugely this season and continues to be a fantastic addition to the A team. William T was exceptional, looking comfortable on either foot and delivering a stunning pass to Evan A that was arguably one of the moments of the match.
Evan A himself was superb, contributing both in defence and midfield. He also produced a sensational assist for Kit R, whose goal was reminiscent of Ian R’s famous strike against Everton in the 1986 FA Cup Final( look it up kids)—one for the highlight reel and certainly the pick of the goals.
Xander T.O was outstanding, scoring a composed hat-trick. His finishing showed real maturity, placing the ball with precision rather than relying on power. Emir Arif D worked tirelessly up front, scoring a brilliant first-time finish and also setting up one of Xander’s goals with a quick restart that caught Berkhamsted off guard.
Sebastian S also impressed, linking play well and providing an assist, and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet himself. It was also great to welcome Darrshan K back into the side following his absence in the recent tournament—his calmness and composure at the back brought real assurance to the team and helped steady those around him.
Overall, this was a fantastic team performance, resulting in a well-deserved 5–0 victory and a fitting way to conclude what has been an incredible season for the U11A squad. That evening I had the pleasure of toasting the boys with a well-earned glass of red, celebrating not just a brilliant performance on the day, but a remarkable season for a team I am proud to coach.

The Beacon U11 C2s Football v Berkhamsted
![]()
The U11 C2s travelled to Berkhamsted on Wednesday for their final fixture of the season, and it proved to be an afternoon as unpredictable as it was entertaining. After battling through a hailstorm back at school, we arrived at Berko under glorious sunshine—only for it to soon give way to flurries of snow. The ever-changing conditions had me humming “Four Seasons in One Day” for much of the afternoon, which felt rather fitting.
The boys started a little slowly, perhaps still adjusting to both the opposition and the elements. Despite growing into the game, it was Berkhamsted who struck first, capitalising on a counterattack late in the opening quarter of four ten-minute periods to take a 1–0 lead.
To their credit, the team responded well after the break. Early in the second half, Neel L brought us back into the contest with a well-taken goal, finishing confidently to level the scores. This sparked a period of sustained pressure, as we pushed hard in search of a winner.
Giles G led the line tirelessly, constantly working to create opportunities, while in defence Thomas G, Ayan B and Robert F were resolute and dependable throughout. Behind them, Krishi K had an excellent game in goal, showing real commitment by staying in position for the entirety of the match and making several important contributions.
Across midfield, Bryan L, Arjan P and Jimmy C rotated through different roles, each adapting well and delivering creditable performances.
Despite our efforts, luck was not on our side, and the winning goal never came. While it was disappointing not to finish with a victory, the boys can be proud of a term full of hard work and resilience—in all sorts of weather. A fitting end to a strong season. Well done, team.

The Beacon U10A & U10B Hockey v St John’s Northwood
The final hockey fixtures of the season took place on Friday 20th March, as both the U10 A and B teams welcomed St John’s Northwood for an enjoyable afternoon of home matches. It was particularly pleasing to host these games on home soil, providing a fantastic opportunity for all those who have committed to the Year 5 Hockey club throughout the year to represent the school. For many of the boys, this marked their first ever competitive hockey fixture—hopefully the first of many to come. A personal thank you for Mr Walker too – for umpiring the two matches.
Despite a clash with football fixtures meaning several positional changes and personnel adjustments for the A team, the boys showed great determination and a clear desire to compete. A special mention must go to Robert P, who stepped into the role of goalkeeper for the afternoon and performed admirably, making several important saves and showing great bravery.
The A team match began with an early setback, conceding a goal in the first half. However, the response after the break was outstanding. The boys dominated possession and territory, applying relentless pressure on the St John’s defence. Time and again they created chances, only to be denied by an excellent opposition goalkeeper. Their perseverance finally paid off in the closing stages, with Peter S continuing his fine scoring form to equalise. Buoyed by this breakthrough, the team pushed on and were rewarded with a dramatic winner from debutant Edward B in the final few minutes. It was a result that perfectly summed up the spirit of the team this season—resilient, hardworking, and never willing to give up. Standout performances came from Barney K, who controlled the midfield superbly, Peter S for his attacking threat, and another debutant, Neo D, who impressed with his energy and commitment.
The B team match was equally competitive, ending in a well-contested 0–0 draw. The defensive unit of Phoenix F, Rohan B, and Thomas B was outstanding throughout, showing great composure and teamwork to keep a clean sheet. In midfield, Freddie F and Oscar H worked tirelessly, linking play and covering ground, while Sebby R led the line with determination. Charlie M-S came agonisingly close to snatching a late winner, but in truth, a draw was a fair reflection of the game.
Well done to all the boys for their effort and commitment in all weathers this season. It has been a hugely positive year for hockey, and hopefully one that inspires many to continue their journey in Year 6.

The Beacon U9A v Berkhamsted School
The Beacon U9A rounded off a highly successful season in style with an impressive 5–1 victory away at Berkhamsted School on Tuesday 24th March.
Playing in challenging, windy conditions, the team showed great determination and quality from the outset, adapting their game intelligently and maintaining excellent control throughout what proved to be an exciting and fast-paced match.
Beacon made a strong start, with Mateo G opening the scoring with a composed finish. Daniel N then took control of the game in the attacking third, scoring twice in quick succession to give Beacon a commanding lead. Mateo added his second goal of the match to extend the advantage further before Berkhamsted managed to pull one back. However, any hopes of a comeback were quickly ended when Daniel completed his hat-trick with a clinical fifth goal to seal the win.
Despite the difficult conditions, the whole team contributed brilliantly, demonstrating excellent teamwork, resilience and a positive attitude in their final fixture of the season. Defensively, Beacon remained organised and disciplined, limiting Berkhamsted to few opportunities and responding well when tested.
A special mention goes to Guy B, Aaran A, Archie N, Mateo G, Daniel N, Arlo C, Finn A and Ollie C, all of whom played their part in a fantastic team performance.
Congratulations to all of the boys for their outstanding efforts this season. They should be incredibly proud of the progress they have made, both individually and as a team, with their improvement clear to see in every match they have played.
This result was a fitting end to what has been a very successful and enjoyable season for the U9A team.
