Racing through
As part of the Year 8 Leavers’ Programme, we were thrilled to welcome an external race day experience provider, who transformed our Sports Hall into a series of interactive activity zones that brought the world of motorsport to life. Oracle Redbull Racing in partnership with Milton Keynes College Group, launched a STEMx initiative to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) to pupils in schools to inspire the next generation of engineering talent in Formula One.
During the morning, Year 8 were separated into small groups to rotate through a range of exciting stations. At the media and broadcast zone, they stepped both behind and in front of the camera, learning how to operate sound and filming equipment while conducting post-race interviews. They then took on the pit stop challenge, working collaboratively to change tyres on a scaled Formula 1-style car against the clock. Pupils also enjoyed designing their own custom race cars and attending an engaging careers talk, which explored the wide range of opportunities available within the motorsport industry.
In the afternoon, they went on to designing and building their own miniature cars before putting them to the test on the race track. We were amazed by the speed of some of the creations as they raced past the finish line!
The day was a fantastic new addition to the Year 8 Leavers’ Programme! It was wonderful to hear all the positive feedback from our Year 8 pupils and learn about their highlights from the day.
