Lower School Exploring the Ashmolean Museum
On Friday 6th February, Year 3 enjoyed a trip to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, where they impressed the session leader with their extensive knowledge of the subject. They completed a scavenger hunt for Ancient Egyptian artefacts and explored a real Egyptian shrine dedicated to the Pharaoh Taharqa, decorated with symbols learnt in class such as the Ankh and the Cartouche.
Two mummies were on display, allowing our pupils to see just how much work went into preserving the bodies. They were particularly fascinated to see a whole section on Amarna, the city created by Tutankhamun’s father, Pharaoh Akhenaten.
It is always lovely to hear positive feedback from staff at the museum, and this year was no exception. Our pupils were praised not only for their knowledge but also for their manners and consideration towards the general public.
