A Visit From Adam Kay

7 November 2023

We hit the ground running on our first day back after half term with a memorable author visit from comedian and former medic Adam Kay and his illustrator Henry Paker.  At The Beacon to promote their new book, Kay’s Incredible Inventions, the pair wove the stories of incredible real life creations, such as the toilet and the wheel with a series of wacky cartoons and even wackier inventions which sprang from the pen of Henry Paker as the afternoon progressed. The Spinney rocked with boos and cheers during the ‘True or Poo’ quiz questions dotted through the presentation and finished with a brief Q&A session.

Adam Kay and the V&A have teamed up to get youngsters’ creative juices flowing with a competition to design their own ‘incredible invention’ which will be built in real-life by the Young Inventors organisation and featured in the paperback edition of Kay’s Fabulous Inventions when it is published in May 2024.
