Last Friday, we held our annual Sports Day at Woodside Stadium in Watford for our boys in Years 3 to 8. This was a brilliant chance to celebrate the dedication and hard work our pupils have put into PE, and for our wider Beacon Community to witness the progress they’ve made over the past year.
The day kicked off with boys in Year 6, Year 7 and Year 8 going head-to-head in a spirited competition between our four Houses – Eddystone, Portland, Trinity and Cromer. Family and friends lined the sidelines, cheering enthusiastically as the competition went on. For many of our older boys, this was the final opportunity to break some of our Beacon Sports Day records – increasing the pressure of each race, jump and throw.
Philip A (Year 8) successfully broke two Beacon records that haven’t been achieved since 1981! He excelled in the long jump and triple long jump competitions, landing a wapping distance of 5.55 meters in long jump and 10.85 meters in triple jump, snatching The Beacon title off a Year 8 Beacon boy from over 30 years ago! Well done, Philip!
At the end of the morning session, Mr. Baker announced the winners of each category, along with the overall results. Eddystone, much to their delight, emerged victorious and proudly claimed their medals before gathering for a celebratory group photo.
Later on in the afternoon, it was time for our younger boys in Years 3 to 5 to take to the track. Once again, family members gathered in the stands, ready to show their support.
All our Beacon boys had the opportunity to participate in a range of activities and categories, including javelin, hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump and our famous ‘House Tug of War’. This time, it was Cromer who took the lead, winning our younger Years 3-5 Sports Day!
Congratulations to all those who took part. There was an immense amount of resilience and determination, as well as great sportsmanship throughout the day. A huge thank you to our Games Department who organised the well-run event, as well as our Beacon Community for travelling to Watford to support both events.
We look forward to seeing everyone again next year with some new PB’s ready to be broken!
