Developments at The Beacon

8 September 2023

As school closes, The Beacon continues to move forward. Over the summer holidays, The Beacon has undergone some remarkable transformations that are set to enhance the learning and recreational experiences for our boys.

State-Of-The-Art ICT Suite

The exciting new addition of a state-of-the-art ICT suite stands as a testament to our modern education, providing a cutting-edge environment for our boys to explore our new world of technology. The ICT room has been completely refurbished and fitted out with brand-new intelligent equipment including integration of computer workstations that reveal individual monitors by a simple touch, a teaching wall featuring an 86-inch digital LCD screen for interactive classroom learning, a robotic play area for robotic programming activities and the collaborative use of a 4K HD video recorder, freestanding lights and a green screen for filmmaking!

We are enormously grateful to the BPS who have committed £30,000 towards the new equipment and extremely excited about the new possibilities this equipment will open for our boys’ learning.

“We are very lucky to now have our new ICT suite ready in action for this term. The bright and welcoming space is where the boys will get to push their problem-solving skills and technical knowledge in a safe environment. It is a space that allows flexibility for activities from floor robots with Pre-Prep to Python coding with Upper School. With the different STEM activities and boys leading lunch time clubs, it really is a place where all Beacon boys can prosper and learn” – Mr Porter – Head of Computing & Innovation

AstroTurf

Adjacent to this, the newly laid Astro Turf has transformed the school’s outdoor spaces into a vibrant hub for sports and outdoor activities at breaktime as well as during Games lessons for all years, encouraging physical fitness and teamwork.

Dining Hall

Our Dining Hall, the hub of the school, has had its floor renovated to produce a fresh and welcoming ambiance, inviting our boys and staff to come together and socialise over lunch.

Brick Pathway

Lastly, the installation of a new Beacon brick pathway leading up from the Swimming Pool gate towards our Early Years building not only enhances the aesthetic of the school grounds but also creates a special and memorable location for current and former Beacon pupils. Personalised bricks have been built into the pathway for our Beacon Community to see for many years to come. The adjoining flower beds have been planted and lighting installed to add to the experience of walking down the back of the school.

These developments reflect the school’s dedication to creating a dynamic and progressive educational hub for everyone. A massive thank you to our Estates Team and IT Team who have worked tirelessly over the summer to bring these developments to fruition.

Here’s to the Autumn Term!
