Dear Parents,
Such a sunny week and a smile on everyone’s faces as sunglasses go on, cricket bags adorn the changing rooms and ‘Late stay’ moves outside to provide that end of term high spirited atmosphere across the school site. Whilst the benefits of sunshine are obvious, it also adds significantly to our statistics from the solar panels we installed last summer. I told the boys in Assembly today that as of last Friday, our panels since installation have saved over 6 tonnes of CO₂ which is the equivalent of planting 500 trees. They seemed suitably impressed and I promised to keep them updated of our solar generation, if they also do their bit at school and at home by not wasting needless electricity – bring on the sunshine and let’s see where we can get to collectively by the end of the school year – Beacon boys love a good stat! The great weather has been timely to welcome our newest member of staff this week, Groundsman Tom Roberts. Tom most recently worked on the grounds team at Watford Football Club, preparing what are routinely acknowledged as the league’s best playing and training surfaces; he is confident he can make Willsfield the best games field on the prep school circuit before too long.
Where did that term go? Only seems like last week I was writing Happy New Year, but with such a packed term and an Inspection to boot, The Beacon Spring Term has flown by. A big day tomorrow in the Baker household with my wife Brigid’s 50th. We are having friends round in the evening and Brig has declared that this will suffice as a gift. I’m hoping that’s genuine as all I have is a card and my recent ‘hit rate’ for gifts has not been strong. Aside from that, we will be at Kimble Point-to-Point on Easter Saturday and I will be out on the bike, clocking up the miles before Beacon to Portland in June, and out in the car clocking up the miles with Joseph before his driving test at the end of the month. And then, it’s the start of the Summer Term, and judging by the nets I witnessed on Wednesday, our bowling attack is fit and raring to go – it’s going to be a knockout term at The Beacon.
Have a great Easter break,
Nick Baker
