Readers of this column will recall that I mentioned a few weeks ago that we have been inviting parents to Friday Assembly this term. So far, this has been a very well received initiative and one set to continue and expand, however, I did warn our parents attending this morning that the end of this morning’s Assembly “might be a bit wild.” House Points, Commendations, Kindness Cup, Match Reports etc., are always good to listen to and applaud but I knew that the last item, which I had termed ‘The BIG reveal…!’ was always going to send our Beacon boys and girls into an excitable frenzy. For the past few weeks, our ever-creative and mischievous Performing Arts Dept have been dropping clues, pranks and teasers around the school site. It has been a collective guessing game amongst our community as to what this all means, but we can now formally announce that we will be hosting a Pantomime this Christmas, with a company of actors made entirely from me (playing King John…) and my colleagues. You are all invited to our staging of ‘Robin Hood’ at the end of this term; it promises to be a Beacon performance for the ages…
A number of you have queried why we are in school next week whereas other schools will be on Half Term after today. Historically, we have always followed Berkhamsted with term dates, however, as a Hertfordshire school, this can occasionally be at odds with what the ‘Bucks’ schools do with their autumn half term; this year being one such occasion. Next year, Bucks and Herts are in sync so there is no issue for 27/28, but going forward we will always try and match the term dates as reasonably as possible. Brigid, who works at a Bucks school, was gloating this morning that this was her last day for two weeks…though I retorted with reminding her that our second week, when she is back at school, is when Patrick and Joseph come back from university due to their Reading Weeks. As a sad face emoji replaced her initial glee, I regaled her with my plans for lots of Baker Boys Golf, lunches out, possibly even some expensive and wanton trips to the Lego shop in Westfield…maybe we got the right two weeks after all…
Have a good weekend,
Nick Baker
