Our Beacon runners performed superbly on a demanding course in windy conditions on Thursday, showing excellent resilience and determination throughout.
In addition to winning the overall event, every runner delivered an outstanding individual performance.
Kit R led the way with an excellent third-place finish, followed by Quinn R in sixth and Xander T.O in eighth, completing the scoring runners. Wilf W finished strongly in ninth place, while Bertie H and Evan A secured 13th and 16th place respectively. A special mention goes to Sebbie W who, despite being ill from Monday to Wednesday, showed great commitment by competing and supporting his teammates.

U11 Stowe Hockey Tournament
![]()
The U11 hockey team travelled to Stowe School for a competitive and thoroughly enjoyable tournament, showing clear signs of progress as the term has developed. Despite wet weather and a long day of fixtures, the team demonstrated resilience, teamwork and growing confidence throughout.
Group Stage
The boys opened their campaign with an excellent 2-1 victory over Beachborough School, with goals from Sebastian S and Kit R. It was a strong start, highlighted by sharp attacking play down the right flank. A hard-fought 0-0 draw followed against Spratton Hall, where the team showed discipline and structure to secure a clean sheet.
The next match saw a 2-0 defeat to a well-organised Winchester House side. Although the result did not go our way, there were still positive passages of play and valuable lessons learned.
The boys responded impressively with a 1-1 draw against Swanbourne House, Sebastian S once again finding the net with a composed finish late on to equalise and snatch a point. Confidence continued to grow in a narrow 1–0 win over Northampton School for Boys, with Sebastian S again scoring the decisive goal.
The final group fixture brought a tight contest against a strong Ashfold School side, ending in a 1-0 defeat. The boys battled hard and remained competitive throughout.
Bronze Medal Success
Based on their group stage performance, the team progressed to the bronze medal match – a fantastic achievement in itself. In a tense and closely fought game, the boys saved their best moment for last. With the clock ticking down, top marksman Sebastian S struck a dramatic late winner past the Spratton Hall keeper to secure a 1-0 victory and a well-deserved bronze medal.
The celebrations at the final whistle were a fitting reward for the squad’s effort, determination and development across the term. The medal made the wet conditions and late finish all the more worthwhile.
A superb team effort to be proud of – well done, lads!

U10 Hockey Tournament
On Wednesday afternoon, the U10 hockey squad travelled to St Edward’s School for their first taste of competitive fixtures this season. With only two of the nine boys having previously played in a hockey match, the afternoon promised to be a valuable learning experience — and it certainly proved to be just that.
The tournament was played as a 7-a-side round robin format, with each team competing in seven matches of 10 minutes each. As the afternoon progressed, the boys grew in confidence with every game, showing impressive determination, teamwork and resilience. They adapted quickly to the pace and structure of competitive hockey and should be proud of the progress they made over the course of the tournament.
Results:
· Match 1 – v St Andrew’s: 0–1
· Match 2 – v New College: 1–0 (Peter S)
· Match 3 – v Chandlings: 1–0 (Peter S)
· Match 4 – v St Hugh’s: 0–0
· Match 5 – v Elstree: 1–1 (Wilf W)
· Match 6 – v Pinewood: 1–1 (Barney K)
· Match 7 – v MCS: 2–2 (Peter S & Barney K)
MCS went on to win the tournament, with The Beacon finishing in an excellent third place. Elstree secured second position, and having matched them in our head-to-head fixture, it underlined just how tight and competitive the standings were.
There were several notable performances across the afternoon. Mateo C was outstanding in goal, making a number of important saves. In defence, Robert P showed great composure and bravery, while across midfield Wilf W and Barney K worked tirelessly, linking play effectively between defence and attack. Up front, Peter S provided a real goal threat and finished his chances well. That said, the effort and attitude shown by every member of the squad was superb.
A very encouraging first outing — well done, boys.
Squad: Mateo C, Barney K, Charlie M-S, Robert P, Peter S, Macsen T, Ronan W, Aman P and Wilf W

U9C2 Football vs Chesham Prep
![]()
The U9C2 team were delighted to finally have a fixture on Willsfield for the first time this term, and they made sure it was worth the wait with a thrilling 7-4 victory over Chesham Prep.
The game was closely fought in the early stages, with both sides showing energy and intent. It was Josh C who broke the deadlock, finding the back of the net to put us 1-0 up and settle any early nerves. From that point on, we applied continuous pressure to the Chesham Prep goal, creating plenty of chances. However, football can be a funny game. A combination of swift counter attacks and some enormous long throws from the Chesham Prep keeper repeatedly caught us short at the back. Despite our attacking efforts, we found ourselves 4-2 down at the half-time break.
The second half saw a remarkable turnaround. Some might say that this dramatic improvement can be attributed to the inspirational and no-doubt legendary half-time team talk. In reality, it was probably because we were now playing downhill.
Whatever the reason, the boys were superb after the break. A flurry of goals from Jafar M, Simran B, and Josh D swung the momentum firmly in our favour, while Aarlen J produced a stunning top-corner strike that gave their keeper no chance. Taking full advantage of a tiring Chesham Prep side, the team pressed forward with confidence and determination, eventually running out deserved 7-4 winners.
It was a tremendous effort from all the boys involved – full of resilience, teamwork and attacking flair. Well done, lads!

1XI Football vs The Oratory School
The match started well for The Beacon, with the boys enjoying much of the possession and creating chances. Several of our players had good opportunities and we were unlucky not to go ahead. However, it was Oratory who scored the first goal before half time with their first attempt on target from a through ball, and we went into the half time break a goal down.
Our team started the second half brilliantly with good energy and deservedly equalised with an excellent strike from Barney G from outside the box. They played some very good football and looked the more likely side to score. However, Oratory scored another breakaway goal from a ball over the top with their only real chance of the second half.
The Beacon rallied again and Harry T equalised with a well taken finish inside the box. It was all Beacon for the remainder of the game, but the boys ran out of time.
The team can take encouragement from the match as they played some very good football at times. However, we need to become more clinical in front of goal and, defensively, we need to make sure we are set correctly while we are attacking, as we were caught out on a couple of occasions by breakaway goals.
The team:
- Matteo P
- Arki B
- Harry A (Capt)
- Hugo C
- Karanveer D
- Rocco G
- Barney G
- Henry M
- F Rowland
- Seb S
- Hugo T
Score: The Beacon 2 Oratory 2
