Will the great tennis tournament be the same again?

This year, the great tennis tournament known as Wimbledon is held from 3rd July until Sunday 16th July.  Held one week prior to The Championships, the Wimbledon Qualifying Competition is comprised of Gentlemen’s and Ladies’ Singles competitions to determine the final Main Draw places for The Championships 2023. This event will occur at the All England Lawn Tennis club in church road, South -West London.

With most of the Wimbledon stars retired, how much will the tournament change?

With Federer out of the way it is left to Carlos Alcaraz and Novac Djokovic. Rafael Nadal said he will likely retire from professional tennis in the second half of 2024, plus he will miss Roland Garros this year for the first time in 19 years. A left hip flexor injury has sidelined him from competition since January’s Australian Open. He will also miss Wimbledon.

People we have previously interviewed some Beacon students from the tennis team: Freddy, Will and Padraig. Will, Freddy and Padraig have said that they enjoy tennis since they like how competitive it is and also how they have a good time. Since they are in the tennis team they find it fun to compete against other schools and enjoy playing the sport together. I asked them what their opinions on Nadal retiring was and they said “All good things have to come to an end” which I find respectful.

Mr. Williams, Head of Physical Education, has said that he likes the clothes that Wimbledon players wear since they have a policy of all white which is interesting. He said that his favourite player was Andy Murray because he won so many tournaments such as some Grand Slam three times, US open and Wimbledon twice. We asked Mr. Williams, “What do you think of Nadal retiring?” and he said that he was a very great player and he won a lot of medals.
