DeSantis and Elon Musk – What Are Their Views?

25 May 2023

Ron DeSantis and Elon Musk are both well-known popular figures but at the same time they have both had their own controversies. In the past both have been accused of discrimination towards minorities. However this may be viewed as justifiable. Today we will be investigating to try and find out whether or not this is truly fair or not. On the early afternoon of December 12th 2022 Elon Musk had tweeted ‘The woke mind virus is either defeated or nothing else matters.’ And on the afternoon of the 17th of May 2022 Ron DeSantis signed 4 bills to instate the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ rule which rules that schools cannot explicitly refer to sexual orientation.

Ron DeSantis, Governor of the State of Florida, is also attempting to become the Republican Nominee for the 2024 US Presidential Elections. Ron DeSantis has passed 4 bills in Florida that constrain Floridian Public Schools from teaching some things involving Sexual Orientation. However, whilst this may seem unfair, you have to consider that due to the culture in Florida being relatively conservative, some of the Floridian Public don’t mind this law. We interviewed a History teacher Mr. Winter about his thoughts on the matter and this is what he had to say. He believed that ‘it was the wrong thing to do’ and ‘that everyone should be able to access the same things no matter their race, gender or any other minority communities.’

Another man who is known for letting his views be heard is Elon Musk, the world’s richest man. Elon Musk has been known to post his views on Twitter (which he owns) and at some points has been called out for his views and comments. When our SAS (Self and Society) teacher Mr. Privett was asked about this, his response to Elon Mus’s child disowning her because of his trans-gender views. Mr. Privett said that he didn’t like it and that he sad it shouldn’t of had to have been done Elon Musk has also mentioned that trans-gender people shouldn’t be allowed access to healthcare.

Overall it will be interesting to see whether or not some of these views catch up to them or not.
