Battle of the Houses 2023

24 March 2023

As the end of term approaches, the battle of the Houses has been in full swing, with boys eager to tot up their points to claim the title!

Tuesday saw the pop-up House Table Tennis Tournament take place. In a hotly contested competition, the top 5 table tennis players in each House from the Lower, Middle and Upper Schools went head to head.

Each team had 5 “lives” with which to defeat their opponents in a quick fire best of 3 match. Each loss lost a life and the winners were the team with the last boys standing. The pace was frenetic and the quality of play, particularly in the Middle School, was very impressive. Though Eddystone started strongly in the Lower School competition it was Cromer who eventually emerged victorious!

House events concluded this morning with one of our marquee events for the term, the House General Knowledge Quiz. Boys from Lower, Middle & Upper School formed teams to compete in a battle of wits in front of a packed audience in the Spinney Theatre.

As well as quickfire questions, boys played ‘Guess the Teacher’, ‘A Question of Sport’, ‘Catchphrase’ & ‘Answer Smash’ to try and win the coveted General Knowledge Trophy.

This year, the Eddystone team of Seb C, Thomas R & Oliver F came out on top despite the best efforts of the other three Houses.

At the conclusion of the quiz the points were added to the final standings which saw Cromer win for the term, with Eddystone in second and Trinity pipping Portland to third in a tense and exciting race for the House treat, which takes place on Monday.

Final standings were 1st Cromer, 2nd Trinity, 3rd Eddystone, 4th Portland; well played to all the boys involved, the sportsmanship and endeavour was excellent throughout.

A special mention to the Beacon Parents’ Society for donating the new table tennis tables!

Many congratulations to Cromer who have come out top again this year! Enjoy your House treat on Monday!
