Summer Camp at The Beacon

Summer Camp at The Beacon has been out in full swing! Our Beacon Boys and guests have been running, painting and even sending rockets up to the sky this week! They are having great fun whilst learning important skills such a team-building and problem solving. Keep reading to see everything they have been up to.

Cooking Camp

This summer, cookery camp have been cooking up a storm, baking up some delicious dishes such as carrot cake, brownies and garlic and herb loaves. Homemade tagliatelle and tomato pasta sauce was on the agenda for Wednesday and wow did it look yummy. The sun came out just in time for their Thursday BBQ Favourites and to finish the week off its “Curry Friday”, where they made a Mongolian chicken curry with lemon rice and naan bread. It’s safe to say everyone had a fab time! 

 

Design and Technology Club

In DT Camp this week, the boys have been using a variety of skills and produced some fantastic creations such as a horseshoe tray, rocket toy, an air car, percussion instrument and butter knife. They have had great fun measuring and marking, drilling holes and counter sinking them, using a screwdriver to join pieces of wood, sanding by hand and machine, and learning how to program the laser cutter. After each project they reflected on their work and made improvements where possible. Many boys commented on how they planned to use these transferable skills to make wooden inventions at home!

 

Art Club

The art club has been a hive of creativity, and the children have been experimenting with lots of artistic mediums and techniques throughout the week. Themes have included acrylic painting on canvas, gel printing, mosaic, silk painting and wire sculpture. Some wonderful works of art have been created and have the children have had great fun getting stuck in!

 

Multi Sport Activity Camp

The boys and girls at the Multi Sport Activity Camp enjoyed some great weather this week! Taking part in activities such as cricket, dodgeball, swimming, football, and kick the can. It was lovely to see so many children with a smile on their face. The senior group enjoyed ‘Pizza Friday’ and it was a terrific week. Well done to everyone involved.
