All Hail our Valiant Vikings!

4 March 2020

The Beacon School was invaded on Wednesday by fierce Viking warriors! What a day we had with wonderful costumes and engaging workshops.

On arrival, all boys were given a Viking name. They travelled back in time to the ninth century and experienced various workshops such as making clay runes and pots, weaving rope bracelets, creating Thor’s hammer, making beeswax candles and crushing ingredients to make medicine to cure ailments.

From their settlement, they discussed the forthcoming battle and reacted as gossip was spread. All the boys demonstrated a great understanding of the causes of Viking invasions and an empathy for King Alfred’s resistance. In the afternoon, the boys discovered replica artefacts by taking part in an archaeological dig. ‘Lord Ragnor’ also carried out metal casting where liquid pewter was made into solid brooches.

All the boys had a really exciting, memorable day and thoroughly enjoyed the role-play!
