Dear Parents,
With a bit of snow, the lights up in the Quad and the dulcet tones of various carols and Christmas songs being hummed by the boys along the corridors, the festive season is clearly just around the corner. The whole Beacon Christmas Extravaganza kicks off with what they will come home with next Friday (no spoilers here…) followed by the BPS centrepiece ‘Christmas Fair’ on Saturday 7th December. I am always so impressed with how much of a whole Beacon School community event this is, with so many boys, staff and parents involved in the facilitation of an event that is similar to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, just better. Joseph is more than happy to help me out on my Christmas Photo stall again but did comment that he may struggle without Patrick this year as “it got really busy and quite stressful!” I will be sure to help Joseph out but if you can help on any of our other stalls, we still do have a few slots to fill so if you can help, please email [email protected] – it will be much appreciated.
Great to bump into so many Beacon boys and parents past and present at the England vs South Africa rugby test match last weekend. Not easy to spot a familiar face amongst 80,000 but a Beacon bobble hat shines as its name suggests, and added to what is always more of a sociable occasion than a sporting one. I have been to Twickenham dozens of times over the years and despite inordinately more time queuing for trains, refreshments and toilets than watching any rugby, whose rules I increasingly do not understand, there is still a bit of magic to an event at that venue. It is testament to the spirit and togetherness that the sport promotes that win, lose or draw, everyone says afterwards “that was a truly great day out”.
Have a good weekend,
Nick Baker
