Year 4 Viking Day 2026

Stepping Back into the Dark Ages

Year 4 Viking Day was a thrilling experience, as our pupils immersed themselves in a wide range of activities that took them on a journey back to Viking times.

We welcomed our guests from History Off The Page, who transformed The Beacon into the Middle Ages through a blend of practical handicrafts, drama and role-play, further enriching our pupils’ learning.

The morning began with Year 4 taking part in everyday tasks from a 9th-century Viking village, including weaving, pottery, metalwork and candle-making.

In the afternoon, they went on to explore the Dark Ages from a historical perspective. Using archaeology, they learned how historians discover and interpret evidence, helping them to understand how we know about the tasks they had practised earlier in the day.

Overall, the themed day gave our young historians the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the topic they have been studying in class, while further inspiring their enthusiasm for history. It was a pleasure to see everyone in their thoughtfully curated costumes, which truly brought Viking Day to life!
