Excellence On and Off the Stage
Twenty-five of our dedicated Years 7 & 8 Beacon boys took their talents to the international stage, performing the high-energy musical Sister Act Jr. at the world-renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe — the largest arts festival in the world.
Our casts outdid themselves by performing back-to-back sellout shows to a wide range of enthusiastic audiences throughout the week. A staggering 535 visitors bought tickets to watch the show!
Show Director and Head of Drama at The Beacon, Zenelle Oosthuizen, says, “The Beacon Boys stepped it up every day; from flyering on the royal mile with perseverance. Their behaviour, professionalism and camaraderie were second to none and they truly rose to the occasion. A week we won’t ever forget!”
Families who accompanied the Performing Arts Team to support their sons also gave glowing feedback. One parent remarked, “It absolutely blasted my expectations out of the park. So much learning, development and fun! A lesson in sharing with others, supporting others, and digging in deep to get the desired outcome for them and you.”
Another parent said, “It has been a highlight of 9 amazing years at The Beacon. It taught them all the values of hard work, teamwork, self confidence, communication and an unbelievable experience to perform at a professional venue for 6 days in a row in front of a paying public audience from all over the world.”
We have also been delighted to receive comments from visitors at the Fringe! One visitor messaged, “What a joy it was to watch – genuinely the most fun afternoon I’ve had at the fringe and all down to the passion the boys had for their performance.”
We’re extremely proud of the boys for not only pushing their performance skills to the next level, but also for the professionalism, kindness and support they showed each other throughout the experience. Well done, boys!
