Peloton to Cromer Lighthouse

Riding for AJ Myocarditis UK: Beacon to Coast

The Beacon peloton to Cromer Lighthouse was a fantastic two-day adventure filled with teamwork, great scenery and plenty of miles in the saddle.

Setting off from school to a fantastic send-off from pupils, staff and parents, the group quickly found its rhythm on the road towards the first refuelling stop at Jordans Mill in Biggleswade. From there, the route wound through beautiful countryside as riders ticked off the miles on the way to Ely, the halfway point of the journey. Naturally, the peloton stretched out into smaller groups as the day unfolded, with different riders settling into different paces, but everyone came back together in the evening for a well-earned meal at The Riverside in Ely.

Following a much-needed overnight recovery, Day 2 began with fresh legs and the final push towards the Norfolk coast. The opening section treated the riders with long straight roads, beautiful scenery and sunshine on their backs. Morale remained high as the group rolled into Swaffham for lunch, where coffees and plenty of extra calories disappeared quickly ahead of the closing stretch.

As Cromer drew closer, tired legs began to feel the accumulated miles, particularly on the narrow and unforgiving climb up to the lighthouse itself – a tough final challenge after two demanding days on the bike. Even so, reaching the top and seeing the coastline spread out below made the effort worthwhile. More than anything, there was a genuine sense of satisfaction in completing the ride together as a team.

To round off the trip, the group headed into Cromer for the traditional reward of fish and chips followed, of course, by ice cream before boarding the minibus back to school. It was a brilliant trip from start to finish, and huge thanks go to everyone who helped make it possible. We are also highly grateful for the generous donations made by our community in support of AJ Myocarditis UK, the incredible charity chosen by the school for this year’s ride.

Here’s to next year’s adventure!
