And so it all comes down to this as we look to the final knockings of what is Week 35 of The Beacon School Year 2025-2026. No suggestion of a wind down here though, with normal lessons in full swing and plenty of formal and informal end of term events to look forward to next week. The most significant, of course, is Speech Day, at the Wycombe Swan on Wednesday. Parents in Years 5 and above will know the drill here but for Year 4 parents and those new to the school this year, we start at 2pm sharp and aim to finish at 4pm. Only the Head Boy Team and I speak at these events but there will, of course, be a large element of showbiz as Beacon boys showcase the year. As a Beacon School tip, I would advise anyone who needs to make a quick getaway not to use the multi-story car park next door, as this can take a long time to exit; far better to use the car park on Easton Street or the Eden Centre.
So far, my World Cup predictions are holding with Scotland not making it out of their Group and England going as far as the Quarter Finals. They still have a fairly large hurdle against Mexico in the early hours of Monday of course, but I am quietly confident they will get a result there. England always have one big performance in them at a major tournament and I think it could be on Monday…I am fully expecting lots of cheerful but bleary-eyed members of our community on Monday morning. Major sporting events are always great reference points for nostalgia and hopefully Monday will be one of those “I remember when in 2026 when I was at The Beacon, the game was in the middle of the night and we won but everyone was really tired the next day…” or something like that, we’ll see…
