BPS Discover Lunar New Year

Celebrating the Year of the Horse

On Saturday 7th February, more than 350 members of our Beacon community came together for a vibrant and joyful celebration of Lunar New Year, organised by the Beacon Parents’ Society. Families gathered to welcome in the Year of the Horse and enjoy a wonderfully immersive afternoon of cultural experiences, food and festivities.

The event opened with a spectacular Lion Dance performance accompanied by drums, cymbals and other instruments to mimic the lions movements, build excitement and bring good luck. This was followed by energetic Kung Fu workshops and a chance to meet the lions up close, led by Dragon Style. There were hands-on dumpling-making sessions with Beacon parent Daisy, which proved hugely popular, alongside delicious hot food from Wok Bang. Children also had the opportunity to take part in a Jiu Jitsu session with Harman from Jiu Jitsu Juniors, who will soon be launching classes in Amersham.

Throughout the afternoon, guests could try on traditional costumes, create origami and paper lanterns, collect lucky red envelopes and have a go at Chinese calligraphy with Celine.

The event was made possible thanks to a wonderful team of organisers who were keen to share their beautiful culture with the wider school community. A huge thank you goes to them, and to their families, for the time, energy and generosity they put into making the day such a memorable success.
