Year 8 MasterCook Competition 2025

A Culinary Celebration at The Beacon

Year 8 rounded off their MasterCook journey in spectacular style with an exciting and high-calibre final. Judged by the esteemed Laurie Gear Chef Patron at the Michelin-starred restaurant, Artichoke in Amersham, the competition showcased outstanding culinary talent and our finalists certainly rose to the occasion.

1st Place: Alex C impressed the judges with a stunning trio of apple desserts—an apple brûlée, apple sorbet, and tarte Tatin, elegantly topped with a delicate sugar basket. Each element was executed to perfection, an extraordinary achievement within the hour time limit.

2nd Place: Ben F wowed with a classic sticky toffee pudding paired with rich, homemade custard—flawlessly balanced and beautifully presented.

3rd Place: Elliot R served a Perfectly cooked and seasoned sirloin steak accompanied by a peppercorn and brandy sauce, rosemary, and garlic Hasselback potatoes, and fine green beans. The flavours and execution were exceptional.

All our boys who participated in this year’s Year 8 MasterCook Competition have had their dishes incorporated into the menu for our upcoming Come Dine with Us event. Here, they will prepare meals for their families and teachers in our pop-up restaurant—a wonderful opportunity to showcase the skills they’ve developed and celebrate their culinary achievements. Other Beacon boys will join the restaurant team as front of house staff.

A heartfelt thank you goes to all the judges who have supported Cookery and Nutrition over their five-year journey at The Beacon. Your encouragement has played a vital role in nurturing our young chefs.
