The Beacon U8 vs HABS
The U8A and B1 teams faced HABS on Thursday in two fantastic matches. Both sides played with great spirit, enthusiasm and skill from start to finish — and both came away with well-deserved victories.
I was really pleased and impressed by the quality of play on display, which was also recognised by the HABS teachers who refereed the games.
Our key focus areas for the week were moving the ball away from the contact area and creating space — it was brilliant to see this applied so effectively throughout the matches.
Two outstanding team performances — well done, everyone!

The Beacon Colts A vs Dragon (Away)
Our opening game was against Dragon School, who started strongly and tested our defensive organisation early on. Despite some determined tackling, we found ourselves on the back foot and eventually went down by three tries to one. Our consolation came from a moment of brilliance by Xander T-O, who sliced through the defence and scored a great individual try.
In the second match against Pinewood, a formidable school we don’t often play against, we struggled to find width in attack and were too narrow in defence, which allowed Pinewood to take advantage out wide and score three unanswered tries.
Although the results didn’t go our way, the boys showed great spirit throughout and will take plenty of valuable lessons from both matches. With some focused training on our structure and spacing, we’ll look ahead to Moulsford next week.
Onwards and upwards, boys.
