Sports Highlights Week 33 2025

U13c vs Westbrook Hay

On Wednesday afternoon, the U13C’s played Westbrook Hay in our final match of the season. The boys elected to bowl first and in this pairs format, we put pressure on the opposition straight away by getting three wickets in the first four overs. The boys took a further two wickets before the end of the Westbrook Hay innings and restricted them to 54 runs.

Our wicket takers were Laszlo (1), Eeshan (1), Guy (1), Lithum (1) and Aiden (1) but the most impressive element of our fielding was how Dylan took control at wicketkeeper. Dylan was a constant threat behind the stumps and got two run outs, as well as being an encouraging voice to all his teammates.

So, onto our final innings with the bat. Throughout all these pairs, exactly half of our total runs came from extras, but all the boys chipped in with some runs off the bat too. Dylan opened with our captain Eeshan, and they put on 17 runs for their 18 balls with Eeshan hitting one 4. Laszlo and Benjy came in next and added on a further 22 runs with both boys hitting boundaries. Well done to Laszlo for hitting three 4’s.

Up next was Guy and Theo who added 21 runs off their 18 balls with Guy chipping in with another boundary. Emilio and Armaan were our fourth pair, and they added 29 runs with Emilio hitting a 4 and to wrap things up, our final pair of Lithum and Aiden got 17 runs with Lithum also getting a boundary.

We finished with 106 runs and the boys got their first well deserved victory. It has been a real learning experience for the boys this season but getting more confident with hardball matches has been a real positive for everyone. Thank you to all the Year 7 boys who helped out during the season and good luck to the Year 8 boys. Who will hopefully continue to play cricket next year.

Well done boys.

U13C vs Merchant Taylors'

On a gloriously sunny afternoon, the Under 13B cricket team took to the field for their final match representing the school. It was a fitting end to the season as the boys played a spirited game of pairs cricket, showcasing just how far they’ve come as a team.
Bowling first, the boys quickly set the tone with their most disciplined and aggressive performance of the season. Accurate bowling was backed up by sharp fielding throughout the innings, resulting in multiple wickets and constant pressure on the opposition. The bowlers held their nerve, and the fielders supported them brilliantly – a real team effort. Despite some resistance, the opposition was restricted to 238 runs from their 20 overs – a total that felt well within reach at the break.
After tea, our boys strode out to the crease with confidence and intent. From the first over, there was a clear determination to chase down the target. The batting was a joy to watch – a mixture of elegant strokes and powerful hitting. Every pair contributed, and the scoreboard kept ticking. The climax of the innings could not have been more dramatic, as the final ball of the match was lofted high and handsome for a six, sealing a memorable win and bringing the season to a thrilling close.
It has been a pleasure to see how this group has grown over the course of the season – in skill, teamwork, and character. I have been genuinely impressed with their development and commitment, and they should all be proud of their efforts. A fantastic way to finish the season – well done, boys!

U8A vd Chesham Prep

The U8A cricket team rounded off their season in style with a fantastic performance in their final match of the year, played on a glorious sunny afternoon at home on Wills Field. The stage was set perfectly, and the boys were eager to finish their season on a high.
Winning the toss, our captain elected to bowl first, a decision that quickly paid off. The boys delivered a superb display of accurate bowling, consistently hitting a good line and length. The fielding was equally sharp, with excellent awareness and quick reactions in the field keeping the pressure on the opposition throughout the innings. Their collective efforts restricted the visiting side to a total of 247.
After a well-earned drinks break, our batters took to the field with focus and confidence. It was clear just how much progress the team has made over the season, the running between the wickets was sharp, the shot selection smart, and the communication strong. With each pair contributing to the scoreboard, we steadily built a commanding total, finishing on 291 and securing a well-deserved win.
This result capped off an unbeaten season, a remarkable achievement and a testament to the hard work, teamwork, and enthusiasm shown by every member of the squad.
A huge congratulations to all involved!

U11B2 vs Chesham Prep

On the glorious afternoon of Wednesday 18th June 2025, the mighty U11B2’s took on our most local of opponents, Chesham Prep. With the coach’s, Mr Porter, allegiances split against his old prep school, the boys prepared to walk out of the metaphorical Long Room and take to the field after our captain, Niam, chose to bowl. A fast, furious start only seen in the likes of the IPL, The Beacon bowled tight and quick putting all the pressure on Chesham with 4 wickets in the first 3 overs. Chesham Prep then found some form with one of their batters knocking 25 retired whilst we slowly took away the other batsman. We were rejuvenated when Max came on and took 2 wickets for 1 run in his only over. After that, some great catching and a few runouts finished the innings in the 12th over, giving us a target of 82.
James M and Max M took on the task of opening the batting, some well struck 4’s mixed with some inconsistent calling for singles. We lost some wickets quickly due to poor communication and knowing which batsman should call where on the field, James plugged away and retired on 25. Oscar cam in with a cameo appearance and struck a very quick 18, the match was left on tenterhooks as we lost very quick wickets and even survived a hattrick ball! The end of the game came down to our 14th over, we were on 79 with one wicket to remain and one of their best bowlers was challenging the edge of the bat. Chesham Prep were desperate for any Beacon mistake but James M had returned to the crease after seeing all but one of his peers fall. Sarvan propped up the other end, not having faced a ball, watching James handle tricky delivery after tricky delivery. It came on the 4th ball of the over and James struck it firmly off his pads and watched it bounce over an outstretched arm of a fielder all the way to the boundary. The cheer from the sideline was huge but the heartbreak on the field was evident. Our boys calmly walked on to shake the oppositions’ hands, showing excellent sportsmanship. This was the last ever fixture for The Beacon for most of the team, a brilliant way to end their Beacon sporting career. Well done: Niam, Sarvan, Arki, Sebastian, Oscar, Max, Tristan, Jeevan, Ben and James.
