On a sunny afternoon perfect for cricket, The Beacon U9C1 team took to the field in high spirits to face Caldicott. The squad — William D, Archie D, Isaac B, Barnaby P-S, Alex R, Matthew B, Peter S, Oscar B, Oscar H, and Rhys J — were ready for the challenge ahead.
Winning the toss, The Beacon opted to bat first. It quickly became evident that it was the right decision. A solid start from the top order laid the foundation, and momentum steadily built throughout the innings. Among many excellent performances, it was Alex R who truly stole the show with the bat. Displaying a mixture of power and precision, Alex scored an astonishing 28 runs in a single 9-ball over, sending the crowd into cheers and giving The Beacon a surge in confidence. With continued contributions from across the team, The Beacon posted a formidable total of 132 runs, setting a high bar for Caldicott to chase.
Caldicott began their innings with intent, managing to pick up runs early on. However, The Beacon’s bowlers soon found their rhythm. Tight fielding and disciplined bowling began to restrict the run flow. The turning point came with a sensational over from Oscar B, who ripped through Caldicott’s lineup with 4 wickets — a game-defining spell that put The Beacon firmly in control. Supported by consistent efforts from the rest of the bowling attack, Caldicott’s run chase lost steam and concluded at 55 runs.
The final result was a commanding victory for The Beacon by 77 runs — a performance built on collective effort, moments of brilliance, and excellent team spirit. Special mentions go to Alex R for his explosive batting and Oscar B for his devastating spell with the ball. The entire team should be proud of their efforts in what was a thoroughly enjoyable and well-deserved win.
Well played, U9C1!
