Sports Highlights Week 29 2025

U13A Bloxham Tournament

The Beacon 1st XI cricket team emerged victorious at the prestigious Bloxham School Tournament after a thrilling day of fast-paced, 10-over cricket. The boys played three group matches, showing remarkable skill, teamwork, and resilience to book their place in the final against a strong Moulsford side.

Each game tested the boys’ ability to adapt to the fast and furious nature of the format. Tight bowling, quick running between the wickets, and smart fielding were crucial. Throughout the group stage, every player made a valuable contribution—whether through key wickets, sharp catches, or vital runs under pressure.

The final proved to be a fitting climax. Moulsford posted a competitive total, putting pressure on the Beacon batters. The chase ebbed and flowed, with Moulsford’s bowlers maintaining a disciplined line and length. However, the Beacon boys responded with composure, keeping the scoreboard ticking through clever rotation of strike and capitalising on loose deliveries.

With 7 runs needed from the final over, the tension was palpable. Calm heads prevailed, and a well-timed boundary followed by sharp running saw the Beacon home with just a couple of balls to spare. The entire squad celebrated a hard-fought and well-deserved win.

Crucially, the tournament was more than just a success in terms of results. It provided valuable lessons in match awareness, tactical decision-making, and the importance of backing each other up in the field. The emphasis on consistent bowling, supporting the team, and playing with purpose in every moment laid the foundation for their triumph.

A brilliant team effort and a memorable day of cricket—the Beacon 1st XI can be proud of their achievement at Bloxham.

U13B vs Davenies

The U13B had another thriller of a cricket match on Wednesday against local rivals, Davenies. Davenies opted to bat first and after the first 10 overs, their score was 38 after some good fielding and bowling from The Beacon. Their second 10 overs saw an improved run rate, and they totalled a score of 98 runs.

The Beacon came out firing with Alex C hitting several 4’s and a big 6 in the first two overs, eventually getting bowled out with an impressive 29 runs. Theo H also batted well scoring a quick 24 runs with our score getting close to the target needed. After a few quick wickets, The Beacon needed 10 off 12 balls. Finlay F came in and hit a 4 off the first ball he received and Tom M scored a few quick singles before being bowled out.

In was down to the last over once again with 5 needed off 6 to win. Finlay F hit a lovely pull shot for 4 runs, the next ball he was bowled. Philip A coming on strike, slightly nervous before facing his first ball of the season, 1 needed with 4 to come. He managed to edge it passed the wicket keeper and he and Ben F ran a single for the win.

Another thrilling game for the U13B team. Well done to all involved.

The U8A team had a home match against Davenies on Thursday afternoon and were put into bowl to start. We saw accurate bowling from the off and some alert fielding with good communication all round. The U8’s were playing pairs cricket meaning everyone had a chance to bowl. We managed to keep Davenies score to 239 and it was The Beacon’s turn to bat.

There were some fantastic shots being played for boys of such a young age showing both power and patience when on strike. There was good communication whilst running between the wickets and they scored a lot of runs from good calling.

We ended the game with a total of 312 runs which is an excellent total when playing pairs cricket. Well done to all involved.

Running Success at Stowe

On Monday this week, a team of Beacon boys went to Stowe School to take part in an Athletics meet.  There was much success across the board, with a stand out performance by Finlay F (Year 8) who came second in the 800m race with a staggering time of 2 minutes and 20.25 seconds, breaking The Beacon record, which had been held for the last 7 years. Congratulations Finlay, a truly amazing achievement!
