Sports Highlights Week 18 2026

The Beacon produced a superb team effort to win the County Championships at Stowe school this week. On a very tough and gruelling course, with a punishing hill towards the finish, our boys dug deep and displayed great determination.

The race was a combined event for both Years 5 & 6 Boys and there were over 100 runners in total. Notable performances came from Kit R who finished 4th (Year 6), Maxim M 8th (Year 5), Xander T-O 12th (Year 6) and Wilf W 15th (Year 5). The finishing times of the first four runners in each team were added together and we had a total time of 23:59, some 40 seconds quicker than the second placed team.

Congratulations to the other team members who also took part, Evan A 19th , Quinn R 23rd, Henry O 24th,  Bertie H 41st and Marcus E 57th.  Seven of our runners qualified for the National Championships in March which is a huge achievement for the school.

I’m incredibly proud of the boys on what was a tremendous afternoon of athletics in glorious sunshine!

The Beacon U8A v Davenies

The boys produced a thrilling performance today as the U8A team ran out 6–1 winners against Davenies Preparatory School.

The game kicked off at a fast pace, and The Beacon took an early lead thanks to an unfortunate own goal from the opposition. Confidence grew from there, and Jensen Y and Ollie D both found the back of the net to extend the lead to 3–0 by half-time.

A strong defensive effort from all the boys, combined with excellent goalkeeping from Hugo S, ensured we kept a clean sheet going into the break.

The second half was just as impressive, with every player showing great effort and determination right up to the final whistle. With a required rotation, Henry F moved into goal while Hugo S came into the attack, and the team continued to play with confidence and energy. Three more goals followed, with Jensen Y adding his second of the game, Josh W getting on the scoresheet, and Hugo S finishing a fantastic team move from a beautiful cross by Ollie D.

Despite conceding one goal in the second half, the team defended superbly once again. The match finished 6–1, and I am extremely proud of every boy who took part in such a fantastic team performance.
