National Poetry Day Author Workshops 2025

Insightful Talks from Laura Mucha and Jeffrey Boayke

To celebrate National Poetry Day, we invited authors Laura Mucha and Jeffrey Boakye to speak to our boys about poetry and lead engaging workshops designed to enhance their creative thinking.

Laura Mucha, award-winning poet and author, gave our Year 2 boys a story-telling session with her new book ‘Porridge Please!’ over a live video call. The boys were provided with the opportunity to ask questions and read together with Laura. She then surprised them with an in-person visit the following week, when she visited to conduct creative writing workshops with our older years!

Within these workshops, our Prep School boys were given the opportunity to collaborate on a group poem. They learnt about different writing techniques and ways to draw inspiration.

Author, broadcaster, educator and journalist Jeffrey Boakye, also provided a highly educational workshop with our Beacon boys. He gave an insightful talk to our Years 6-8 boys, touching on subjects such as masculinity, social changes and stereotypes. He challenged pupils to think more about their identity and who they aspire to be, as well as talking about important topics in today’s society.

Altogether, we thoroughly enjoyed having both authors sharing their valuable expertise with our boys. It was a fantastic way to celebrate National Poetry Day and inspire young minds to stay creative and keep learning.
