IAPS Debating Competition 2026

A Lively Day of Debating at The Beacon

On Tuesday, we were delighted to host our very first IAPS Debating Competition at The Beacon. Seven schools from across the South East joined us for a day of lively debate, with pairs of schools working together to propose and oppose the motions.

The first motion, “This House believes the UK should follow the Australian model and ban social media for under-16s,” was won by Kitebrook and Twyford, with Ashfold and Davenies taking second place. In the afternoon, participants faced the additional challenge of an unseen motion set by IAPS, “This House believes students should not be allowed to use AI in schools.” With just 30 minutes to prepare their arguments, Ashfold and Papplewick emerged victorious, followed by Kitebrook and The Beacon in second place.

Altogether, we would like to thank everyone who took part in the competition, which offered a wonderful opportunity for pupils to develop their critical thinking, teamwork and public speaking skills. It was a pleasure to host such enthusiastic and talented debaters. We very much look forward to welcoming everyone back to The Beacon for future debating competitions.
