Interview with Tess Daly
During my interview with Tess Daly, I asked an important question relevant in today’s society which is ‘Can traditional TV compete with the short form video across social media platforms?’
The answer to this question which I picked up from this interview was that both the traditional TV and the short form video can co-exist but the TV shows like Strictly Come Dancing and certain movies will have to adapt to the evolving world.
Tess Daly’s career began with modelling, where she was scouted at 18 and worked in Asia and Europe. She then transitioned to television, hosting shows like ‘The Big Breakfast’ and ‘Find me a Model’. Her breakthrough came with co-hosting ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in 2004, a role that cemented her as a household name, and the person we all know her as today.
Tess admitted at the start of the interview that she may be biased towards classic TV due to the fact that she is a TV presenter. Despite this, I still strongly agreed with her answers to my questions. This is due to the fact that we both believe that classic TV shows and movies have much more of an emotional connection compared to short-form videos that you would never remember.
In conclusion I believe that social media has not killed traditional TV, as people still love watching good shows despite the fact that they know that they can watch catch up clips on social media. However, I do admit that TV shows like Strictly Come Dancing will have to adapt to the ever-changing world of Media.
