October Half-Term Specialist Clubs
During the October half term, our Beacon staff hosted a fantastic range of specialist clubs for children aged 3–13 from all schools. From sports to creative arts and everything in between, there was something for every child to enjoy!
Mini-Makers Club
Our Mini-Makers Club was designed for children in Nursery to Year 2. They got creative with autumnal art and Halloween crafts, making light-up bonfires, spider webs and a range of delicious treats, including spiced biscuits, pizza squares and Halloween cupcakes.
Grubb Club
Grubb Club was aimed at the same age range as Mini-Makers, offering a mix of fun, creativity and cooking. Children explored autumn-themed activities, producing wonderful artwork including colourful leaf spiral decorations, mini autumn canvases and woodland animal crafts such as leafy lions and owl magnets. They also baked sweet and savoury treats every day, from mouth-watering mini pizzas and cheesy twists to animal-shaped biscuits and chocolate hedgehog cupcakes!
Multi-Sports Club
Children in Years 2 – 8 were invited to join our Multi-Sports Club. They enjoyed exciting tournaments, challenges and a variety of physical activities. From football to dodgeball to tennis, every participant ended each day feeling energised. The daily swim went down well, with some children even opting to swim twice in a day!
Design and Technology Camp
The Design and Technology Camp was available to children for Years 4 – 8. It was filled with hands-on creativity. Attendees designed and built sweet dispensers, mobiles, puppets and various games. With specialist teaching and guidance, camp attendees developed valuable technical and practical skills to take away along with their bespoke creations.
Cookery Camp
Cookery Camp was also filled with tasty goodies, with children in Years 4 – 12 being invited to improve their culinary skills. Our attendees put on festive sombreros for spiced tacos and their chef hats for homemade pasta, delivering delicious meals for their families to try daily.
Drama Workshop
At the Drama Workshop, our young performers delved into the world of screen acting. They explored the theory behind camera shots and learned the subtle techniques that bring performances to life on screen. Putting their new skills into practice, they rehearsed and performed short scenes to camera, learning lines by heart and working with specialist filming equipment on their very own makeshift film set. By the end of the week, our budding filmmakers gained valuable experience both in front of and behind the camera.
One participant shared their thoughts:
“I really enjoyed the Drama Camp as it’s fun and I get to do things that we wouldn’t normally have time to do in lessons. Being filmed gave me the opportunity to see myself in the eyes of others.”
Altogether, the specialist clubs enabled children to develop skills in areas they were passionate about and to cultivate attributes beyond their usual classroom setting. For more information about upcoming holiday camps at The Beacon, please click the link below.
