Celebrating the Tradition of the Three Kings

Modern Foreign Languages Themed Week

This week, our pupils explored the history and origins of the Three Kings’ celebration, as well as learning how this significant event is observed in France, Spain and other countries around the world. Within the school’s diverse community, it was particularly rewarding to learn that some of our Beacon boys had already marked this occasion with their families on 6th January, sharing the traditional cake, or galette.

Over the course of the week, different year groups participated in a range of enriching activities designed to deepen their understanding of this cultural tradition. These included learning French and Spanish songs, reading a short French story, observing the process of making a galette and crafting their own crowns.

The celebrations culminated in a special event during which all pupils shared a cake specially prepared by our fantastic school’s catering team. Those who discovered the fève (a glacé cherry in this instance – hidden in the galette representing a lucky charm) were ceremoniously crowned “Kings” for the day!

We’d like to thank all those who shared photos of their beautifully homemade galettes over the weekend, they all looked truly delicious.
